Shope, 85, Liverpool RR1 Laborer LIVERPOOL – George M. Shope, 85, of Liverpool RR1 died at 8 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 20, 1994, at Holy Spirit Hospital, Camp Hill, where he was admitted Monday. Born Nov. 28, 1908, in Susquehanna Township, Juniata County, he was a son of the late Edward and Emma (Lindsay) Shope. He married the former Maggie Goodling on March 4, 1933. Mr. Shope attended the Eden Schoolhouse, Juniata County. He was a laborer for 18 years at Harrisburg Steel Co., retiring in 1955. He was a Protestant. He was a member of the Liverpool Fire Company and Ambulance League, Liverpool. Mr. Shope enjoyed hunting. In addition to his wife, he is survived by two sons, Marlin G. and Maynard L., both of Liverpool RR1; five daughters, Catherine M. Cluck and Marie A. Shelley, both of Richfield RR1, Irene E. Troutman of Mount Pleasant Mills RR2 and Bertha P. Lamey of Mill Hall RR1; two brothers, Ray of Akron, Pa., and John of Lancaster; 36 grandchildren; and 54 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one son, Mahlon; one daughter, Mildred Strawser; two brothers, William and Dervin; two sisters, Sarah, in infancy, and Pearl Reichenbach; and two grandsons, Maynard Cluck and Jason Strawser. The funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday at the George P. Garman Funeral Home Inc., 606 N. Front St., Liverpool, by the Rev. Truman A. Gaugler. Burial will be in Barner's Cemetery, Liverpool RR1. The family will receive visitors from 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
