Smith Is Run Down by Pennsy Train at Newport Grade Crossing Working two weeks for the Pennsy as assistant baggage agent at Newport, on the Middle division, Clarence A. Smith, aged 35, was run down and killed yesterday morning at 9 o'clock by a passenger train. Smith pulled a truck over the station crossing, ready for an incoming train, but stepped back on the track just as a fast train appeared. He was thrown a considerable distance and when picked up was dead. The body was prepared for burial by Funeral Director Evans at Newport. The Perry county coroner investigated.
