Troutman, 87, Selinsgrove SELINSGROVE – Simon Leroy "Sim" Troutman, 87, of Penn Lutheran Village Nursing Home, and formerly of RR1 Mount Pleasant Mills, died Saturday Oct. 17, 1998, at the nursing home where he lived for one year. He was born March 2, 1911, in Juniata County, near Oriental, a son of the late Aaron S. and Dillie (Strawser) Troutman. He was married to the former Pauline Lyter, who died April 24, 1971. He attended Laurel Hill Grammar Schoolhouse in Oriental. He was a World War II Army veteran, serving in Company A, 139th Airborne Engineers Battalion, earn- -- line missing –- and the European African Middle Eastern Service Medal with six bronze stars. He retired in 1973 as a laborer from Wallis' Farm Market Hatchery, RR2, Liverpool after 35 years, then went on a part-time basis until age 75, when he fully retired. Mr. Troutman was a member of St. Thomas Independent Brethren in Christ Church, Mount Pleasant Mills. He was a member of Fremont Volunteer Fire Co., Mount Pleasant Mills and Reliance Hose Company Ambulance League, Middleburg, and Medic 55 of Evangelical Community Hospital, Lewisburg. He enjoyed gardening, craft work, especially wooden crates and wind chimes. Surviving are his wife, the former Irene M. (Goodling) Heintzelman, who he married Dec. 28, 1974; one son, James B. of Millerstown; one daughter, Jane A. Master and son-in-law, Robert E. of RR 2 McAlisterville; five stepsons, Clyde A. and his wife, Shirley of Rockville, Md., Dale R. and his wife, Nancy of RR 4 Middleburg, Dean E. and his wife, Karen of Kreamer, Rudolph A. and his wife, Janet of Montgomery, Ala., and Roger L. and his wife Bonnie of Danville; 15 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and one daughter-in-law, Erma J. of HCR 72, Selinsgrove. He was preceded in death by four brothers, Howard in childhood, Henry on Oct. 16, 1996, George on Nov. 20, 1993, and Jacob; five sisters, Edna in childhood, Ellen Swope, Orpha Kline, Naomi Maneval, and Grace Troutman, who died in childhood; one stepson, Glenn E. Heintzelman on June 25, 1994. The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Tuesday, at St. Thomas Independent Brethren in Christ Church, RR 2 Mount Pleasant Mills, by the Rev. Roger L. Womer and the Rev. Clair R. Troutman, his nephew, assisting. Burial will be in St. John's (Barners) Lutheran Church Cemetery, RR1 Liverpool, with full military honors by American Legion Post No. 364 of Liverpool. Visitors may call from 7 to 9 p.m. Monday, at the George P. Garman Funeral Home, Mount Pleasant Mills.
