This community was greatly shocked last Wednesday morning when the news circulated that Frederick Zellers of Liverpool township died rather suddenly. On Tuesday afternoon, Oct. 12, he and his son George took some apples to Ulsh's cider pre s (sic) (at the old McKinzie mill) and when the cider was made he wanted to pay Mr. Ulsh, but just then he was seized as it were with a fainting or sinking spell and spoke but few words afterwards. Mr. Ulsh took him home in his buggy, and –- next line illegible –- Morris who happened to be at home, and went at once, arriving soon after Mr. Zellers was brought home. The Doctor saw at once that it was a case of apoplexy and beyond medical help. The patient lived until 5:30 o'clock on Wednesday morning, Oct. 13, 1909, when he expired. He was unconscious from the time he was stricken and apparently suffered no pain. His age was 61 years, 5 months and 7 days. The funeral took place on Saturday, the 16th. The remains were laid to rest in Barner's church cemetery. The services were conducted by Rev. Geo. K. Ely, of Mt. Pleasant Mills, Pastor of the Reformed church, of which deceased was a member since early manhood. The Pastor paid a glowing tribute to the good character of deceased as a Christian and a citizen. The Pastor was assisted by Rev. M. S. Romig, of Liverpool, Pastor of the Lutheran church. The funeral was attended by a large concourse of relatives and friends to pay their last respects to a good friend and citizen. Mr. Zellers was married twice. His first wife was Miss Sallie Foltz who died in 1880. He was afterward married to Miss Ellen Foltz, sister of his first wife, who survives him. He was the father of 18 children, 14 of whom survive, viz: John F. of Enola, Lizzie (Mrs. J. O. Spicher) of Laughlintown, Westmoreland county, and Geo. W. of the first wife; Minnie of Newport, Daisy (Mrs. Albert Hoffman) of Liverpool, Carrie, Alice, Harry, Adam A., Irvin, Roy, Norman, Mary and Ruth and 6 grandchildren. He is also survived by two sisters and one brother, viz: Mrs. Jeremiah Haines of New Providence, Iowa, Mrs. J. P. Swartz of near Richfield, and J. A. Zellers of Liverpool. The bereaved family extend their heartfelt thanks to all the kind friends and neighbors for the help and sympathy on this sad and trying occasion of the death of husband and father.
