White mother of Ann Ashton, a minor for Guardian January 20, 1826 All the Judges Prest. Joseph ASHTON appointed Guardian To the Honorable the Judges of the Orphans' Court of the county of Philadelphia County-- The Petition of Elizabeth WHITE mother of Ann ASHTON a minor under the age of fourteen respectfully showeth, That the said Ann Ashton has no person to take care of her person and Estate-- she therfore prays your Honors to appoint some fit person for that purpose-- and your Petitioner Eliz. White by her attorney, Edwd D. INGRAHAM 20 Jan 1826 Joseph K. ASHTON being duly sworn says that the amount of personal property likely to come to the possession of any Guardian appointed for the above child will not exceed the sum of twenty dollars and that Joseph ASHTON, Senior, proposed as the Guardian is a respectable man, of good property, and fit for the trust--[signature] Joseph K. Ashton Sworn before me this 20 Jan 1826 James Barton (?) Additional Comments: Elizabeth Ashton White was the widow of William Ashton (1765-1817) and mother of his 10-11 children. Joseph K. Ashton was her son, and Joseph Ashton, Senior, may have been William's brother, not as yet ascertained (2007).
