Copied by "Xeroxing" on June 26, 1999 of the letter in possession by Gail Summers Bleistein, daughter of Adele Stockham Ayres Summers: [Copy] Philada (125 Walnut St May 1st 1871 J. S. Benner & Co: Gentlemen Yours of April 28th received. I was in error when I stated in mine of the 24th April that my Grand* Father* Lawson's Christian name was "George*" his name was "Joseph." He and my Uncle George having died before my birth & I not having our "Family Record" by me, I fell into the error and was assisted thereto by your statement that George* was the Father** of Mary who married David Weatherly &c. My Father died Febry. 5, 1851. My Mother died March 9, 1866 Intestate, but as she left no Personal* Property*, there was no occasion to take out Letters of Administration My Brothers and Sisters will doubtless empower me to make settlement as by their direction I settled my Father's Estate, & was also Executor of my Brother, Joseph L. Weatherly's Estate. The only Heirs of legal representatives of my deceased Mother are her 6 Children named below,~ to wit: 1. Miss Mary Weatherly 2. Mrs. Isabella Reisky Wife of James Reisky. 3. George S. Weatherly. 4. Thomas Weatherly. 5. David Weatherly Jr. 6. Ellen Ayres Wife of George R. Ayres. The following are Extracts from our "Family Record*" "David Weatherly, Son of Thomas & Catharine Weatherly was born June 14, 1779 in Berwick upon Tweed County of Northumberland England." "Mary Lawson daughter of Joseph & Catharine Lawson was born 16th May 1784 in Wilmington State of Delaware." "David Weatherly and Mary Lawson was Married Feby 9, 1806 by the Rev. Mr ~ Smidt." "George Lawson*, Son of Joseph & Catharine Lawson died at Baltimore October 21, 1823, Aged 54 Years 3 months and 9 days." "David Weatherly Senior, departed this life in the full hope of a glorious immortality Feby 5, 1851 in his 72 Year. He was baptized Sep't. 1813 by Dr. Henry Holcombe in the Schuylkill and received on the Second Sabbath, into the fellowship of the 1st Baptist Church of Philadelphia, which he served with great fidelity many years in the capacity of Deacon & Trustee--The memory of the just is blessed." "Mary Weatherly* relict of the late David Weatherly departed this life March 9, 1866, aged 82 Years--she expressed a firm and full reliance on Christ as her Saviour." "Joseph L. Weatherly Son of David & Mary Weatherly was born Nov. 1, 1806--and departed this life at Buffalo January 29, 1866 in his 60th Year. His remains were interred in his family vault in Cleveland Ohio." My Brother Joseph L had previously buried his Wife and all his Children. I have not thought it requisite at this time to make further extracts as proofs of my Family commission with George Lawson Dec'd. Will you be good enough to inform me as to what is the amount* of the Fund & from what* source* the same is derived? I will pay you a visit whenever the same may become necessary or advisable. Respectfully David Weatherly Jr. [note: * means underscore, ** means double underscore]
