It is coextensive of Philadelphia County. "Phillie" or "Philly" as the locals call it, is made up of many varied neighborhoods. Many are known (especially to the locals) by their individual names. Some of these names date back to the pre-Revolutionary era. These neighborhoods are often mistaken for cities of their own by those unfamiliar to the area.
