No.  19,337                 District and Port of Philadelphia

I   Thomas Wilson Deputy  Collector of the district of Philadelphia, do hereby 
certify, that  Edward Davies  an American seaman, aged  Twenty seven  years, 
or thereabouts, of the height of  Five  feet  Six & a half  inches  fair 
Complexion, brown Hair, marked with the small pox, a small scar on left Jaw, a 
scar on little finger left Hand, two scars on fore finger same Hand.  And is a 
native of Beaufort in the State of North Carolina  has this day produced to me 
proof, in the manner directed in the Act, entitled,” An Act for the relief and 
protection of American seamen” And pursuant to the said Act, I do hereby 
certify, that the said  Edward Davies is a Citizen of the United States of 
America.

In Witness whereof I have hereunto set my Hand and Seal of Office this  
Eighteenth  day of  October  1810

Edward Davis acknowledged to his Captain that he is a Englishman born, is not 
naturalized and not entitled to a Protection, the Captain returned this April 
5, 1811.

I believe this is a copy of the Seaman's Protection Certificate except for the 
note at the bottom.
