Witnesseth, That the Bearer hereof, Robert Halfpenny, five feet 4 ½ inches high Twenty Seven years of age, dark complexion, black hair, was Born at Charles Town, South Carolina in America and discharged being an American from His Britannic Majestys Ship the Defiance T. Jones Esq. Commander, Say an order of the Lord Commissioners of the Admiralty, now serving on Board the Schooner Mary of Norfolk in Virginia, Edward Hackett Master. Subject of the United States of America; as such being liable to be called upon in the Service of His Country, must not, on any pretence whatever, be interrupted in His lawful Business by Sea or Land, either by Impress Masters or any other Officers, Civil or Military. Cowes, 8 Feb 1799 Thomas Auldjo J. P. F. Dobrie, Nice Counsul of the United States of America certify that Robert Halfpeny, the bearer of this having been captured on board the S***** Carolina of Charleston, Capt. Malcolm was imprisoned in Saumul Prison from which he was released on my representation & coming from sd town by the Loire has been wounded over his left hand by a shot from the Chouans & is now embarked in the Prussian Vessell the Frederick William Capt.
