The submitter has given permission to the USGenWeb Archives to store the file permanently for free access. http://www.usgwarchives.net *********************************************************************** Philadelphia County Pennsylvania Deed book I 6 Page 273 - 274 Patent to Jacob and Charles Bell Thomas Penn and Richard Penn Esquires true and absolute Proprietaries and Governors in Chief of the Province of Pennsylvania and Counties of New Castle and Sussex on Delaware to all to whom these resents shall come greeting whereas in pursuance of a Warranted dated the Thirteenth day of October 1760 there was surveyed on the Second day of June 1761 for our use a certain island situate in the River Schuylkill in the County of Berks lying opposite to the lands of Jonas Yocham and Abraham Wanger containing five acres and seventy-seven perches and allowance of six perch for Roads being marked on the return of survey number nineteen and we having sold the same to Jacob Bell of the City of Philadelphia and Charles Bell of Berks County Cordwainers for the sum of Ten Pounds lawful money of Pennsylvania Know ye that at the special instance of request of the said Jacob and Charles Bell and in consideration of the said sum of Ten Pounds lawful money aforesaid to our use paid by the said Jacob and Charles Bell. The receipt whereof we hereby acknowledge and thereof do acquit and forever discharge the said Jacob and Charles Bell and their heirs and assigns by there presents and of the yearly quit rent herein after mentioned and reserved we have given granted released and confirmed and by these presents for us our heirs and successors do give grant release & confirm unto the said Jacob and Charles Bell their heirs and assigns the said above described Island and the same is now set forth with all mines minerals quarries meadows marches savannahs swamps cripples woods underwoods timbers and tree ways waters watercourses rights and liberties privileges advantages hereditaments and appurtenances and whatsoever thereunto belonging of or otherwise appurtaining and these full and clear fifth parts of all Royal mines free from all deduction and reprisals for digging and refining the same and also one fifth part of the one of all other mines delivered at the pits mouth only excepted and verily reserved land also free rights and liberties throughout for the said Jacob and Charles Bell their heirs and assigns in and upon the hereby granted Island to hawk ----- fish and fowl or upon any part thereof to have and to hold over full moiety or equal half parts (the whole unto two equal parts to be divided) of and in the said described Island and premises hereby granted (except as before excepted) with the appurtenances unto the said Jacob Bell his heirs and assigns to the only use & behalf of the said Jacob Bell his heirs and assigns forever and to have and to hold the other like moiety or equal half part (the whole into two equal parts to be divided) of & in the said Island & premises hereby granted (except as before excepted) with the appurtenances unto the said Charles Bell his heirs and assigns to the only use & behalf of the said Charles Bell his heirs & assigns forever as tenants in common and not as joint tenants to holden of us our heirs and successors Proprietaries of Pennsylvania as of our manor of Ruscomb in the County of Berks aforesaid in free & common soccage by fealty only in lieu of all other services yielding and paying therefore yearly unto us our heirs & successors at the Town Reading in the said County at or upon the First day March next one shilling for are same value thereof in coin current according as the exchange shall then be between our said Province and the City of London to such person or persons as shall from time to time be appointed to receive the same and in case of non payment thereof within ninety days next after the same shall become due that then it shall and may be lawful for us our heirs & successors our & their receiver or receivers unto and upon they hereby granted land & premises to re-enter and the same to have again repossess and enjoy until the said quit rent and all arrears thereof together with the charges accruing by means of such non payment and re-entry to be fully paid and discharged witness John Penn Esquire Lieutenant Governor of the said province who by virtue of certain powers and authorities to him for this purpose inter alia and granted by the said Proprietaries both hereunto set his hand and caused the Great Seal of the said Province to be hereunto affixed at Philadelphia this twenty fourth day of February in the year of our Lord one thousand and seven hundred and sixty nine.
