Ford left yesterday for Philadelphia, where he will complete his medical studies at the University of Pennsylvania. Edgar Pershing of Connellsville, who had been visiting at the home of Albert Ford, left yesterday for the University of Pennsylvania, where he is a student at law. Hon. James Flynn of Altoona and A. J. Cook, superintendent of the Berwind- White Coal Mining company, and Joseph Schmittle, the coal operator of Mountaindale were visitors in our town yesterday. The football team has challenged Hollidaysburg team to a match game on Saturday. We are glad to announce a decided improvement in the condition of James Mathers, who has been very ill at Dr. Mather's residence. Rev. Chas. Abbot Walker of the Baptist church is in Philadelphia. A delegation of Excelsior fire company of this place, left for Reading yesterday for the purpose of attending the meeting of the State Firemen's association. J. J. Shand, R. M. McCloskey, H. A. Donglass, W. S. Bush and H. Akers are the ones appointed for this trip. The alarm of fire yesterday was caused by the burning of a kitchen attached to the residence of Thomas Huston. Loss trifling.
