The death of Annie A. Agnew, aged twenty-one, who lived at No. 2104 Fairfield street, and died on Saturday last, at the Episcopal Hospital, was investigated by the Coroner yesterday. She was admitted to the hospital on September 20, with an abscess on her scalp. the disease caused her great pain, and sometimes she was mentally distracted. Once, while in this condition, she said her sister struck her with a poker. She had been with her sister just previous to her removal to the hospital, and had then complained of pains. Dr. Carpenter, of the hospital staff, certified that meningitis was the cause of death, but Edward Agnew, a brother of the deceased, endeavored to show that she was the victim of malpractices at the hands of a doctor living at Fifteenth and Race street. A post mortem made by Dr. George W. Vogeler did not sustain the charge, and the jury gave a verdict of death from meningitis.
