Beideman Lewis R. Beideman, the oldest male resident of Royersford, died yesterday at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Marian Spayd, of Main Street, from general debility and infirmities due to old age. Mr. Beideman was aged 89 years, 11 months and 2 days. The deceased was a highly respected citizen of Royersford for many years and was favorably know many years ago in Northern Chester County, where he conducted a shoe repairing business in the vicinity of Pughtown and made shoes to order, there being but few shoe stores in the country at that time. When the Civil War broke out, and the call came for volunteers to go to the front, Lewis Beideman responded, and during his enlistment in the 175th Pennsylvania Volunteers figured in fifty of sixty skirmishes and engagements, the last being just after the battle of Gettysburg; his regiment was sent to intercept Lee in his retreat southward. In his younger days, his chief pastime was found in fox hunting and many of his former friends, a few of whom survive him in Northern Chester County, still recall some of the exciting hunts in which he participated. For a number of years past, however, he has not been able to perform any kind of work, and has made his home with his children. He is survived by the following children: William Beideman, of Philadelphia; Officer H.H. Beideman, of Royersford; Mrs. Annie Fry, of Royersford; Mrs. Sallie Ricker, of Philadelphia; Mrs. Ida Stout, Mrs. Marian Spayd and Mrs. Flora Dilks of Royersford, and Albert Beideman. In addition to the immediate children there are thirty-six grand children and nineteen great-grand children. His body will be buried at Brownback’s Church with Military honors from Corporal A.J. Grim Post, No. 140, G.A.R. This file has been created by a form at http://www.genrecords.org/pafiles/ File size: 2.4 Kb
