"Deaths of the Day

John C. Hess

Last rites for John C. Hess, longtime resident of Erie who died Tuesday 
morning after an illness of several months, were held Friday, at  2 p.m. at 
the residence, 2602 Parade St. [Erie, Erie County, Pennsylvania], with burial 
following in Erie cemetery [Erie, Erie County, Pennsylvania].

The Rev. F. D. Oberkircher, pastor of St. Paul's Evangelican church, 
officiated at the services.  Acting as pallbearers were Frank Strahl; Fred 
Steiner; B. Alloway; Alois Mader; Edward Tillbrook; and Charles Heisler.

Mr. Hess was born in Germany, the son of Mrs. Elizabeth Schellang Hess, who is 
still living at the age of ninety-three, and the late Conrad Hess.  His wife, 
Mrs. Maggie Daub Hess, died in 1933.  Surviving are his mother, three sisters, 
Mathilda, Mrs. William Goulet and Mrs. Raymond Zuck; four brothers, A. Matt, 
Conrad, Anthony and James A. Hess; three daughters, Sr. M. Benigna, O.S.J., 
Mrs. John J. Neur [Neuer], and Miss Elizabeth Hess; a son, Clarence J., and 
four grandchildren."  [1]

Johannes 'John' Konrad 'Conrad' HESS was the son of the late Konrad 'Conrad' 
Hess, and his wife, still living at 93 [1937], Elisabetha Schellang HESS; both 
his parents were born in Germany and emigrated to America in the early 1880's. 
His wife, Margaret Daub HESS preceded him in death; he was survived by 
children enumerated above and four grandchildren born to his daughter, Irene 
Theresa Hess Neuer, of Erie, Erie County, Pennsylvanaia, USA and of her 
husband, John James Neuer, formerly of Toledo, Lucas County, Ohio, USA, and of 
Erie, Erie County, Pennsylvania, USA.
