Mrs. Lentz was born in the Philippines, where her father, the late Brig. Gen. Guy I. "GI" Rowe, was posted. She attended several schools in the United States and Europe, eventually graduating from South Philadelphia High School for Girls. A Phi Beta Kappa graduate of Swarthmore College, Mrs. Lentz received a master's degree from the University of Pennsylvania School of Social Work. She was a member of the school's first graduating class. During the Depression, Mrs. Lentz went to work as a supervisor for the Relief Board in Philadelphia. After her children were born, she shifted her energies to volunteer work. For many years, she was an active board member and president of the Lighthouse Settlement in Kensington. During her presidency, the Lighthouse began the country's first Meals-on-Wheels program — an idea borrowed from the British. In 1956, when the Lighthouse was honored for the program with the Benjamin Rush Award, Mrs. Lentz accepted as its board president, her son, Martin, said. "She would sometimes take us on the ... rounds when it was getting going," he said. During her last days, he said, Mrs. Lentz received meals herself from the program. Mrs. Lentz was a longtime member of St. Martin in the Fields Episcopal Church in Chestnut Hill. She served as president of the Altar Guild for many years. Her husband, Bernard, an attorney, died in 1981. In addition to her son, she is survived by two daughters, Margaret Reavey and Harriet Eisman; a son, Robert; 12 grandchildren; four great- grandchildren and a sister, Mary Gould Ferguson. A memorial will be held at 4 p.m. Thursday at St. Martin in the Fields, 8000 St. Martin's Lane. Burial will be private. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to the church.
