Ashton’s will IN THE NAME OF GOD AMEN I, Joseph Ashton of Lower Dublin Township in the County of Philadelphia in the Province of Pennsylvania, Yeoman being of perfect and sound mind and memory thanks be given unto God therefore calling unto mind the mortality of my body and the uncertainty of this transitory life do make and declare this my last Will and Testament in manners and form following revoking and annulling by these presents all and every Testament and Testaments will and wills by me made and declared either by word or writing and this shall be taken only for my last will and Testament & none other. And firs of all, I give and recommend my soul unto the hands of Almighty God that gave it and my body to the earth to be buried in a decent and Christian like manner at the discretion of my Executor herein after named—Imprimis. It is my will and I do order that all my just debts and funeral charges be satisfied and paid by my Executor. Item I do give & bequeath unto my beloved son Thomas Ashton all my Estate both real and personal of what kind nature degree or quality ? and wheresover to be found. To have and to hold to him and to his heirs & assignees forever except my ivory headed walking cane and one half of all my carpenters tools with five shillings current money of the province of Pennsylvania which I give and bequeath to my beloved son Isaac Ashton his heirs and assignees. Item – I give and bequeath to my daughter Hannah Thomas wife of William Thomas five shillings current money of the Province aforesaid to her and her heirs & assignees. Item – I give and bequeath to my daughter Mercy Williard wife of Isaac Williard the like sum of Five shillings current money aforesaid to her and her heirs & assignees. Item – I give and bequeath to my daughter Rachel Roberts wife of John Roberts the like sum of Five shillings of the like current lawfull of the Province aforesaid to her heirs and assignees. Item – I give & bequeath to my nephew John Ashton son of my brother Benjamin Ashton all my best suit of apparel, John and his heirs and assignees. Item- Lastly I do nominate, constitute and appoint my son Thomas Ashton my whole and sole Executor of this last will & Testament. For witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal this 3rd day of October in the year of our Lord one thousand seven hundred and fifty (1750). Then personally appeared Samuel Mickle and Thomas Brookes tow of the witnesses to the signing will their solemn affirmance according to law did declare and affirm they saw and heard Joseph Ashton the Testator therein named sign seal publish declare the same will for and as his last will & testament & that at the doing thereof he was of sound mind accuracy and understanding to the best of their knowledge and that they attest with Nath Walton the other witness did subscribe their names thereto as witnesses in the presence of & at the request of the Testator. –Coram Wm Plester?
