Joseph Ashton of Dublin Township Count of Philadelphia & Province of Pennsilvania [sic]. Yeoman being very sick & weak in Body. But of perfect Mind & Memory. That ? given unto God therefore, Calling unto mind the Mortality of my Body & knowing that it is appointed for all men once to Die, Do make this my last Will & Testament that is to say, principally & first of all I give & recommend my Soul into the Hands of Almighty God that gave it ? for my Body. I recommend it to the Earth to be buried in a Christian like & Decent Manner at the Discretion of my Executors. ..nothing doubting but at the General Resurrection I shall receive the same again by the mighty power of God and as touching such ? Estate wherewith it hath pleased God to bless me with in this Life. I give devise dispose of the same as followeth. I will that all my just and lawfull Debts and funeral Charges be honestly paid by my Executors. Then I make Jane Ashton my Dear & Loving Wife & Joseph Ashton my Eldest Son & Benjamin Ashton my second Son joint Exec. of this my Last Will & Testament vis Benjamin my Son to pay all my just Debts of himself in lieu of that I give to him five pounds that lyes in James Stone’s hands & other money that he owes me already … p. 1 to make up what money I owe for him to pay. Then I give & bequeath unto Joseph my Eldest Son two hundred & fifty acres of Land with a House & plantation upon the same that I purchased of Robert Turner & his Heirs & Assigns forever. And two hundred & fifty acres of Land more of the same Tract joining I give & bequeath to the first Heir male of my said son Joseph’s when he comes to Twenty one Years of age and then he to pay Sixty pounds to Jane, my Son Joseph Eldest Daughter & fourty pounds to Hannah my Son Joseph’s youngest Daughter in Currant Silver money of the Province aforesd when they shall attain to Eighteen years of age or Marries with the Consent of their father & my said Son to pay to my Wife Jane Ten pounds penna? in Currant Silver mony as aforesd as long as she lives. Then I will & bequeath unto Benjamin Ashton my Son Two hundred acres of land that I live on with my Dwelling house & Barn Orchard & all other the Improvements as long as he lives & after his Decease to goe to his Son John Ashton his Heirs & Assigns forever & one hundred acres of land more joining to the sd two hundred acres I give & bequeath unto the said John Ashton Son of Benjamin Ashton when he attains to twenty one years of age & after the sd Benjamin’s Decease to goe to the sd John the whole three hundred acres as aforesd to him his Heirs & Assigns forever. And the sd Benjamin Ashton to pay to my wife & his mother Ten pounds of per annum one barrel of Sider & Six bushels of wheat & four bushels of Mault as long as she lives to be paid yearly in Silver money the said Ten pounds. Then I will & bequeath unto Jane my wife all my household goods & a Negro boy called Jack he to be at her disposal whilst she lives. And at her Death the sd Houshold Goods to be equally divided betwixt the sd Joseph Ashton & Benj Ashton or their Heirs & Assigns. And the sd Negro Boy to be the sd Joseph’s or Benjamin’s & the said Jane my Wife to have on half of my Swelling & house to live in as long as she lives & the sd Joseph & Benjamin to get & provide for my said Wife four cords of wood apiece every year cut in right Lengths for the Chimney in the Inner Room And the sd Benj Ashton to keep a fire? Winter & Summer for my sd Wife Jane Ashton as long as she lives. Then I will that my sd Executors do as much work as is worth five pounds towards building of a stable at Oxford Church in Oxford Township viz the Church of England. And I will that my Executors get & erect a Tombstone over my Grave when buried with an Inscription writ as directed & five pounds of Current Silver money of the Province aforesd I give & bequeath unto the Minister of the sd. Church for he to preach a funerall Sermon at my Burial. In witness hereof I have set my Hand & Seal the day & year first within ?
