All Rights Reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://www.usgwarchives.net/pa/pafiles.htm ********************************************************* Philadelphia County Will Book D-14 John Farmers will Probate 11 January 1724/5 Inventory Exhibited 11 March, Act when acquired Ex. aff I John Farmer of Germantown in ye County of Phyladelphia in ye province of pensilvania wool-comber being well in Body & Mind & therefore a fitter condition to make my last will & Testament than in a time of sickness And to ye ___ that all my goods Chattles Lands & Tenements may hereafter ___ unto ___ons & remain & go to such uses as by me ye said John Farmer is ___meted & appointed I do Therefore make & ordain this my Last Will ___ment in the manner & forms following. I give & Bequeath unto my Wife Mary Farmer of Saffron Waldon in Essex in Great Brittain all whatsoever I have there belonging to me. Secondly I Give & Bequeath unto my Daughter & only child Ann Farmer now or late of White Chappel now London in Middlesex in Great Brittan all my Real & personal Estate whatsoever I have in any part of America after all my Debts & funeral Expenses are paid To Have & to hold the said estate to ye alone proper use and Behough of she ye said Ann Farmer her Heirs & Assigns forever. And I do ordain & appoint my said Daughter Ann Farmer and Dirik Johnson yeomon of Germantown aforesaid to be my Executrix & Executor of this my Last Will & Testament But if the said two persons be unable or unwilling to undertake this Executorship then I do hereby Appoint & ordain Thomas White senior of Bristol township in phyladelphia county in pensilvania yeomon and peter Wishart Chandler of phyladelphia Citty in pensilvania to be my Executors of this my Last will & Testament. I do hereby charge & order my Executors to put no new linen about my dead body but put my worst shirt on it & my worst handkerchief on ye head & ye worst drawers or briches on ye body & ye worst stockings on the Legs & feet And Invite my Neighbours to com to my house & there thirst th___ in moderation with a Barrel of Sider and two gallons of Rum or other Spiritoss drink & a bushel of wheat flour baked into ____ they are ready to carry away ye corps then in the house or yard Read the foregoing & following part of this Testament loudly so yt all may hear It. And also to read it at ye grave before my body is buried (if ye weather be fit for it) That then when I cannot speak with my mouth I may speak by this writing to provoke ye hearers to Love the Almighty God ye Father & ye Lord Jesus Crist his Son & the holy Gost which proceedeth from ye father & the Son & is the comforter of all true Cristians & the reprover of ye world for sin for self Righteousness & wrong Judgment Those three the father son & sprit are the one Almighty & Everlasting God the Creator & upholder of all good things who will Raise ye Dead with spiritual and Incorruptable Bodies & will turn ye wicked into Hellfire. But all they who show their Love to Him by their keeping of these his Commandments (viz) Love God above all things ___ & ___ his Fear alwaise & trust in him with all thine Heart ___ not to any ___ all thy ways acknowledg him to be as he is Lord of all Souls Bodies & Estates And as su__ Lord wa__ upon him alwaise & watch & pray against ye Lust of ye Flesh ye Lust of ye Eye & ye pride of Life alwaise and watch & pray in ye holy spirit for ___in your Hearts in and by his holy Sprit more & more & turn presently at his Reprofs when he Reproveth you for that you have so long Robbed him of his due (which is your Heart) by your loveing Som creature more than him. Do not put of your turning to him until another time as the Devil tempteth you to do but turn presently unto Crist & then he will pour forth of his holy Spirit into your Hearts & thereby make new creaturs of you by helping of you to love God above all & to Love your neighbour as your selves & to Love one another & to Love Enemies & to do all people whom you convers with as true Cristians would be don unto. In which State of Love & obedience to God I through his help have Lived & do hope to die in It. For I am well Assured by ye holy spirit of God in my Heart & also by ye holy Scripture that all who live & die in the said state of Love and obedience to God will be in Everlasting Joy alwaise waiting upon God in Heaven & there serving & praising of Him who is worthy of it & to him be it rendered forever more See the other side hereof I do hereby make void all wills & Testaments by me heretofore made In Witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand & seal this thirtieth day of the 6th month called August 1724. Signed, Sealed, published pronounced John Farmer (seal) And declared by the said John Farmer As his Last Will and Testament in the Presence of us the subscribers viz John Prigg John Mid winter sworne Mary Prigg Philadelphia the 11th of January 1724/5 Then personally appeared John Prigg and John Midwinter, two of the witnesses to the Foregoing & within written will. They The said John Prigg and John Midwinter on their oaths ________ did Declare they saw & heard (John Farmer) the Testator, sign, seal, pronounce, declare The same to be his Last will and Testament, and That at the doing Thereof he was of sound mind memory & understanding to the best of their knowledge.
