I Christopher Meng of Germantown in the County of Philadelphia in Pennsylvania, Yeoman being far advanced in years and often indisposed. Do think it necessary to settle my worldly affairs which, I hereby do by this my Testament and last Will, being through Divine favor at present of perfect health and disposing Mind, Memory and Understanding for which and other Mercies of Almighty God, I am humbly thankful. First I recommend my Soul into the Hands of my Merciful Redeemer Jesus Christ, and my Body to the Earth, to be buried in a decent Christian like manner by my Executors herein after named. Secondly it is my Will that my Just Debts and funeral expenses be fully paid and satisfied as soon after my decease as possible. Item I give and bequeath all the rest and residue of my Estate unto my beloved Wife Catharine during her Life, for her Support and Maintenance. And what shall be left after her decease and payment of her funeral expenses. I do hereby give and bequeath unto my Children, Step Children and Grand Children herein after named to be equally divided between them, that is to say, One full Eighth part thereof to my Son Melchior Meng his heirs and assigns forever. One full Eighth part thereof unto my Son Wollery Meng his heirs and assigns forever. One full Eighth part unto my Daughter Barbara Van Lashet the Wife of John Van Lashet her heirs and assigns forever. One full Eighth part unto the Children of my Daughter Dorothy Schreiner deceased, late wife of Jacob Schreiner and to their respective Heirs and Assigns forever, to be equally divided between them Share and Share alike. One full equal Eighth part unto my Step Son and Son in Law Jacob Schreiner his Heirs and Assigns forever. One full equal eighth part unto my Step Son, Nicholas Schreiner his Heirs and Assigns forever. One full equal eighth part unto my Step Daughter Charlotte the Wife of Philip Will her Heirs and Assigns forever. And the remainder eighth part thereof unto my Step Son John Gensel now of Charleston South Carolina and to his Heirs and Assigns forever. And if any of my said Children, Step Children or Grand Children herein before named should depart this life before such Dividend be made, in such case the Child or Children of such Decedent, individually shall inherit the same. Lastly I nominate and appoint my said Dear Wife Catharine Executrix and my said Son in Law Jacob Schreiner Executor of this my Testament and last Will hereby revoking and annulling all former Wills by me heretofore made or expressed. Ratifying and confirming these presents only for and as my Testament and last Will. In Witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and Seal dated the Thirtieth Day of September Anno Domini One thousand Seven hundred and eighty four. Catharine Baker Richard Taylor Christopher Baker Catharine Baker & Christopher Baker two of the Witnesses to the foregoing Will maketh Oath that they were present & Saw & heard Christopher Meng the said Testator Sign & Seal & publish pronounce & declare the same for and as his last Will and Testament and at the doing thereof he was of Sound and disposing Mind and Memory to the best of their knowledge and belief. Sworn the Seventh day of November 1785 - Before Geo. Campbell Reg. The foregoing Will being proved probate was granted unto Catharine Meng & Jacob Schreiner Executors in Testament named being first duly qualified truly to perform the same.
