HUGHES, age 16 L.C.&. N. Co., No. 9 Died from injuries received by falling from a mule May 26 JOHN PLUCK, age 16 L.C.& N. Co., No. 11 Killed; his coat was caught by a revolving shaft, carring the unfortunate boy around with it June 9 JOSEPH LAWLER, age 26, s, Middle Creek Shaft Killed by a fall of coal in a breast (Note: all of the above collieries were located in Schuylkill County) July6 WM. J. ARNER, age 17 Nesquehoning, Carbon Co. Killed by an explosion of gas July 14 MEL MCMARRAH, age 33, m, 3, New Boston Killed by a fall of coal in breast Aug 11 THOMAS FLEMMING, age 39, m, Middle Creek shaft Killed by a premature explosion of a blast Aug 21 JAMES SYMONS, age 34, m, 3, L.C.& N. Co. No. 8 Killed by a temporary timber plane; the two men recklessly rode down the plane on the lumber truck, knowing there was nothing to control the speed of the truck but the weight of the rope on the other track Aug 21 DANIEL MCDAVIT L.C. & N. Co. C. &.N. Co. No 11 Killed by an explosion of gas; the victim was the assistanct boss, having charge of the mine on the night shift. It is more than probable that in examing the place to ascertain if it was free from gas, he had either forgotten that his open lamp was lighted or he ventured too far before extinguishing the open light.
