Water that had accumulated behind the slush suddenly forced it out the gangway. 22-Jan Davenport, David American Slatepicker 16 S Wadesville Killed by runaway car on plane. 23-Jan Zeleskie, Julius Polish Miner 50 M Buck Run Fatally injured by blast at face of breast. 24-Jan Sambu, Phillip Italian Contractor 31 M Phoenix Park Fatally injured by explosion of powder in tunnel while preparing to tamp hole. 25-Jan Gerber, John Austrian Pole-man 18 S Coaldale Killed by cars. He went between a trip of cars while it was in motion. 26-Jan Recuma, Charles Austrian Miner 36 M Packer No. 5 Killed when a large piece of coal rolled and caught him against the top of a manway. 28-Jan Ratchet, Mike Horwat? Miner 38 M Coaldale Fatally injured by fall of roof in chute. 30-Jan Dunsavage, Thomas American Miner 27 S Maryd Suffocated when he walked into a body of gas. 31-Jan Gibbons, Thomas American Loader Boss 35 M Lytle Fatally injured by being kicked by mule 7-Feb Chesonis, George Lithuanian Machine Miner 32 M Maple Hill Killed by explosion of gas. He went to face of worked-out breast for plank and ignited the gas. 7-Feb Williams, William American Laborer 51 S Rausch Creek Washery Struck by piece of frozen culm at bottom of bank. 11-Feb Wertz, Carl American Driver 18 S Buck Mountain Fatally injured when he fell in front of empty trip and cars ran over him. He returned to dress down the loose material after a blast, when a slip of coal fell off the rib. 4-Mar Shaborn, Charles Slavonian Laborer 50 S Pine Knot Leg fractured by rush of culm. Died the same day. 4-Mar Walefskie, Anthony Polish Miner 28 M Weston Killed by being swept down manway by rush of coal when rib gave way while he was standing prop at top of manway. 7-Mar Rollis, Anthony Lithuanian Miner 50 M Eagle Hill Killed by fall of top slate at face of breast. 11-Mar Hidock, Mike Lithuanian Miner 45 W Gilberton Killed by fall of rock in heading. 11-Mar Marinelli, Candino Italian Miner 32 S Blackwood Instantly killed by fall of roof on gangway. 14-Mar Cavage, Joseph Lithuanian Miner 45 M Tamaqua Fatally injured by explosion of gas in breast. Died March 17. 18-Mar Bambrick, John American Miner 55 M Good Spring Suffocated in chute while starting coal at battery. 19-Mar Zuber, William American Laborer 19 S Indian Ridge Killed by falling between cars while walking on top of moving loaded trip. 21-Mar Hoy, George American Driver 20 S Wadesville Fatally injured when he fell under cars while attempting to get on front end of trip. Died March 25. 3-Apr Stevens, William American Door-tender 50 S Greenwood Killed by fall of rock from roof of tunnel. 5-Apr Thompson, John American Runner 17 S Black Creek Washery Killed by being crushed by wheel when he fell from railroad car that was in motion. 9-Apr Lapinskie, George Polish Miner's laborer 19 S Turkey Run (died with Rapko) Smothered when caught by rush of fine coal from rib. For some unknown reason he was in face of an old gangway used for switching cars when the motor pushed in a trip against the face. 22-Apr Lewis, Edward Welsh Miner 50 M Greenwood Suffocated by coal of fine coal in slant tunnel. 23-Apr Daube, David American Miner 55 M Sherman Suffocated by rush of coal in chute at pillar work. 26-Apr Reilly, Thomas American Jig-Tender 16 S Otto Instantly killed by machinery. 30-Apr Mecarra, Andrew Austrian Miner 37 M Lytle Instantly killed by fall of coal at face of breast. 1-May Yahoma, Mike American Laborer 20 S Turkey Run Killed by falling on circular saw. 7-May Cameroon, Peter Italian Miner 30 M Packer No. 5 Smothered when caught by rush of dirt while preparing to fire shot in dirt bank. 10-May Boyle, John Irish Laborer 57 M Spring Dale Washery Fatally injured by machinery . While tending to scraper line his coat was caught in the rope and he was pulled around wheel. Died May 12 18-May Mulick, Wasil Hungarian Topman 50 M Gilberton Struck by locomotive. 21-May Walasavage, Stiney Polish Machine Miner 24 S Maple Hill Internally injured by explosion of gas while drilling hole at face of chute. He evidently did not use his safety lamp. 10-Jun Derr, Walter American Laborer 62 W Lincoln Killed by being knocked against the side of trough by rush of water. 10-Jun Zitkoskie, Peter Lithuanian Miner 26 S Lawrence Killed by fall of roof at face of chamber. 11-Jun Krutz, John American Miner's laborer 19 S Oneida Fatally injured by fall of roof near face. Died June 13. 11-Jun Nester, Jere American Laborer 38 M Coaldale Killed by being struck on head by particles from shot. 14-Jun Chealacofskie, Paul Polish Miner 34 M West Shenandoah Fatally injured by being struck by timber in heading. While standing timber, he failed to secure one of the legs and it fell on him. He died the next day. 15-Jun Jones, David J. Welsh Fan-Engineer 71 M Coaldale Found dead. Supposed to have been killed by electricity in tunnel 17-Jun Connors, William American Topman 23 S Brookside Fatally injured. Caught between cars on slope. Died June 24 20-Jun Subick, Frank Polish Laborer 69 M Cambridge Fatally injured. He attempted to push a car into the tipple without the knowledge of the men who worked there, and another car followed and crushed him. 23-Jun Monitskie, Blottie Russian Laborer 50 M Packer No. Killed by being struck by timber that rolled from car while helping to unload car of timber on the railroad. 25-Jun Berusparis, Joseph Lithuanian Miner 37 M Weston Killed by fall of rock near face while drilling hole. 1-Jul Friday, Peter Russian Miner's laborer 37 M Suffolk Killed by fall of rock while reaching for pick; final robbing. 10-Jul Salahones, James Russian Miner 35 M William Penn Killed by fall of coal while preparing to drill hole at face of robbing. 10-Jul Smoskie, Stiney Polish Miner 44 M Buck Run Fatally burned by explosion of gas in breast. 11-Jul Discavage, Joseph Lithuanian Miner's laborer 48 M Turkey Run Killed by being caught on fan shaft. He entered fan house at a door at rear of fan for the purpose of going into the mine and was caught on fan shaft. 11-Jul Gustoff, Joseph Lithuanian Miner 33 S Silver Creek Killed by fall of coal in face of chute. 12-Jul Chicotsky, Stiney Russian Miner 35 M Packer No. 5 Killed by fall of clod. They were robbing gangway pillars and failed to take down or prop up a clod next the top after they had removed the coal. 12-Jul Lutinsky, Stiney Russian Miner 48 M Packer No. 6 Kill by fall of clod. They were robbing gangway pillars and failed to take down or prop up a clod next the top after they had removed the coal. 13-Jul Adams, William American Miner 39 M Brookside Instantly killed by premature blast near furnace. 17-Jul Dornblazer, Charles American Miner's laborer 19 S Tamaqua Suffocated by gas and fell to bottom of manway. They were digging an air hole using compressed air, and after firing a round of holes went back to work, closed the valve on the air line and worked with electric lamps. Gas accumulated and they were both overcome. 17-Jul Malakusky, Mike Russian Miner 29 M Tamaqua Suffocated by gas and fell to bottom of manway. Died on way home. 8-Aug Knelly, Raymond American Laborer 17 S Oneida Instantly killed. Struck by timber that rolled off car while taking out sprags. 9-Aug Slyma, Charles Polish Miner 35 M Eagle Hill Killed by slate chute where he was robbing pillars. 17-Aug Fowler, Earl American Runner 21 S Oak Hill Instantly killed. Caught between car and rib on plane. 19-Aug Azaravage, Leon Lithuanian Miner 45 M Knickerbocker Killed by fall of coal at face of gangway while shoveling coal. 27-Aug Elliott, Roy American Miner's laborer 37 S Buck Mountain Fatally injured by fall of slate at face of breast while placing a prop. Died September 30. 28-Aug Reilly, James American Chute Tender 15 S Pine Hill Instantly killed by being caught by shaker shaft in breaker. 31-Aug Krolick, John Austrian Miner 35 M Lawrence Killed by fall of roof at pillar work. 2-Sep Namertovitch, Peter Polish Miner 27 M Mahanoy City Internally injured by explosion of gas. He went into old breast that had been worked some years ago., without his safety lamp, and fired a small quantity of gas. Died September 19. 4-Sep Noon, Michael American Miner 47 W Locust Gap Killed by a premature blast at face of gangway. 5-Sep Reanock, Anthony Austrian Loader 24 S Rahn Killed by fall of timber on gangway. 6-Sep Montie, Paul German Engineer 30 M Shenandoah City Killed by falling timber that was dislodged when locomotive struck a plank. 7-Sep Zoukes, Alex Polish Miner 36 M Park Internally injured by falling down chute. A blast that he fired in a piece of coal in the battery discharged the foot prop and in returning to examine the battery he fell down chute. Died the next day. 9-Sep Masipus, John Lithuanian Starter 27 S Maple Hill Instantly killed by rush of coal at battery. 10-Sep Podpinis, Frank Lithuanian Miner 40 S "Honey Brook, No. 5 Fatally injured by fall of coal near face. 12-Sep Shealsky, Julian Polish Miner 37 M Eagle Hill Fatally injured by fall of top slate in face of workings where he was robbing pillars. He was placing a prop when fall occurred. Died in the following day. 11-Oct Motts, Angelo Italian Miner 30 M Mahanoy City Internally injured by fall of coal at face of gangway while loading car of coal. Died the next day. 11-Oct Vernosky, Charles Polish Laborer 18 S Alliance Killed by steam pipe falling on him while taking down a steam pipe line. 15-Oct Kutz, William American Carpenter 27 M Ashton Washery Killed by car. His foot slipped in getting on car. 19-Oct Cummings, Thomas American Miner's laborer 47 S Turkey Run Killed by being caught between car and timber on gangway while standing on front end of moving car with his body extending beyond the side. 21-Oct Brozozisky American Laborer 17 S Kehley Run Killed by being crushed in scraper line. 21-Oct Hanabfixie, Dominick Lithuanian Miner 35 S Pine Hill Fatally burned by explosion of gas near face of breast. 28-Oct Schreffler, John American Miner 48 M Oak Hill Instantly killed by fall of coal at pillar work. 30-Oct Metz, Louis American Bottomman 44 M Bast Killed by falling down shaft. 31-Oct Frieler, Jacob American Laborer 43 M Oak Hill Fatally injured.
