Infty. No. 491.768 On this 24th day of July A. D. 1894 personally came before me a Justice of the Peace, in and for the county aforesaid, Maria Brodt of Llewellyn, Schuylkill County, state of Pennsylvania, and she being duly sworn according to law, deposes and says. That she is the claimant in above mentioned claim. That in answer to Letter from Pension Department dated July 18, 1894, she makes the following statement. That she has not, in her possession or control any real, personal, or mixed estate, except the necessary household furniture, that there is no person legally bound to support her, that she has no income whatever, that since the death of her husband the soldier she has been supported by visiting her children, who have contributed to her support, and who are all married except one daughter, that she is not able to cook on account of being subject to Rheumatism, that she has no stocks, bonds, or investment of any kind, and she is in whole dependant upon her children's contributions for her support. Affiant further declares that the above testimony was all written in her presence and from her own oral statement then made to Wm. Kuehu of Minersville, Pa. On this 24th day of July A. D. 1894 at Minersville, Pa. and who reduced the same to writing, and that in making the same, she did not use and was not aided or prompted by any written or printed statement or recital prepared or dictated by any other person, and not attached as an exhibit to her testimony. Maria Brodt State of Pennsylvania County of Schuylkill Sworn and subscribed before one this day and year by the above named affiant, and I certify that I read said affidavit and acquainted her with the contents before she executed the same. I further certify that I am in no wise interested in said case, nor am I concerned in its prosecution. Wm. Kuehu Justice of the Peace Stamped July 26, 1894 page 2*** State of Pennsylvania County of Schuylkill In the matter of Maria Brodt, widow of Henry Brodt, late of Co. A, 50th Regt. Pa. Vols. Infty. No. 491768 On this 3rd day of August A. D. 1894 personally appeared before me a Justice of the Peace in and for the County aforesaid, Maria Brodt, and she being duly sworn according to law, deposes and says, that she is the claimant in above mentioned claim, and she further states that she cannot now furnish the correction required in the affidavit of Thomas B. Thomas, that said Thomas B. Thomas died since his affidavit has been filed. She further states that her husband Henry Brodt has been in no other military or naval service of the United States since his discharge from Co. A. 50th Regt Pa Vols. Infty. at the end of the War. She further states that the record of Commissioners office shows that a certain real estate was assessed in the name of Henry Brodt, she says in reference of that, that her husband and herself was the owners of a certain real estate in the town of Llewellyn, Pa. That on the twenty sixth day of September 1876, her husband and herself sold the said real estate, to Sophia Brodt, and executed a Deed of Conveyance for the same, for the consideration therein mentioned. That said Deed was duly recorded at Pottsville, Pa. in the office for recording of Deeds, etc. in Deed Book 5, A. H. page 176 on the 12th day of April A. D. 1877. That since that time her husband or herself has not been the owner of any real estate. She further declares that above testimony was all written in her presence, and from her oral statement then made to Wm. Kuehu of Minersville, Pa. on this 3rd day of August 1894 and who reduced the same to writing. That she did not use and was not aided or prompted by any written or printed statement or recital prepared or dictated by any other persons except the Deed of my husband Henry Brodt and myself as to dates of execution and where and what time it was recorded as above stated. Maria Brodt State of Pennsylvania County of Schuylkill Sworn and subscribed before me this 3rd day of August A. D. by above named affidavit and I certify that I read said affidavit to said affiant and acquainted her with its contents before she executed the same. I further certify that I am in no wise interested in said case, affiant is personally known to me and that she is a credible person. Wm. D. 1876, before me the clerk of the Court of Quarter Sessions in and for the County of Schuylkill State aforesaid personally appeared Henry Brodt a resident of Llewellyn said county and state to me well known and whom I certify to be a credible person, who being duly sworn according to law deposes and says, that he is the identical Henry Brodt who served as Sergt. In Co. "A" 50 Regt Pa. Vols. (subsequently Capt. of said Co.) That he enlisted on April 17 1861 in Co. "B" 25 Regt Pa. Vols. 19 Three Months Troops. That he subsequently enlisted into Co "A" 50 Regt Pa, Vols. 19 August 1861 and served mission until July 30 1865 when he was honorably discharged from service aforesaid. That he served in no other organization. That he is aware this affidavit is to be filed in support of his claim for invalid pension. Henry Brodt Sworn to and subscribed before me the day and year first above written and I certify that the contents of the foregoing affidavit was made known to the affiant before signing and I further certify that I am not related to the claimant and have no interest whatever in the prosecution of his claim. D. 1879, personally appeared before me a Justice of the Peace the same being a Court of Law, within and for the County and State aforesaid, Henry Brodt, again a resident of Schuylkill County and State aforesaid, who being duly sworn according to law, declares that he is a Pensioner of the United States, duly enrolled at the Philadelphia Pension Agency, at the rate of two dollars per month, by reason of disability incurred in the Service of the United Service while in the line of his duty as Sergt. Of Co. A of the 50th Regt., Penna. Vol. that his present physical condition is such that he believes himself entitled to receive an increased pension and that he himself returns his present Pension Certificate he declares further that he is disabled in the following manner, to wit - that he was wounded August 29th 1862 at 2nd Battle of Bull Run by being shot in the right thigh by a gun shot wound while in the line of his duty and that appoints J. F. B. Krumsis Esq his true and lawful attorney to prosecute this claim, his address is Minersville, Schuylkill County, Penna. Kems Prothmotary page 6** State of Pennsylvania County of Pennsylvania Henry Brodt, on this 10 day of March A. D. 1890 personally appeared before me, a Justice of the Peace, in and for the County and State aforesaid Henry Brodt aged 57 years, a resident of Llewellyn, County of Schuylkill, State of Pennsylvania, who being duly sworn according to law, declares that he is a pensioner of the United States enrolled at the Philadelphia Pension Agency at the rate of $2 is two dollars per month, Certificate No. 140262 dated Aug. 5th, 1876 by reason of disability from a gunshot wound of right thigh, sustained in action on August 29th 1862 at Bull Run Va. While serving as a Sergeant in Company "A" 50th Regt. Pa. V. Vols., that he believes himself entitled to as increase of pension on account of disability resulting from cause aforesaid. He feels that the rate of pension which he now receives is not commensurate with the degree of his disability. He therefore files this application for increase of pension and requests a medical examination by a board of examining surgeons to whom special instructions may be issued so that the full extent of his disability may be ascertained. He states that the leg is painful in change of weather and that he is suffering from neuralgia, affection of the heart and chest organs in general, and that he sincerely believes all this to be due to the chest wound sustained while in the line of duty. Henry Brodt Also personally appeared John J. Walker residing at Llewellyn, Schuylkill County, and George Gobul, Llewellyn, Schuylkill County, persons whom I certify to be respectable and entitled to credit, and who being duly sworn say they were present and saw Henry Brodt, the claimant, sign his name to the foregoing declaration, that they have every reason to believe, from the appearance of said claimant and their acquaintance with him, that he is the identical person he represents himself to be, and that they have no interest in the prosecution of this claim. Sworn to and subscribed before me this 10 day of March A. D. 1890, and I certify that the contents of the above declaration etc. were fully made known and explained to the applicant and witnesses before swearing, and that I have no interest, direct or indirect, in the prosecution of this claim. Infty. No 491768. On this 3rd day of August A. D. 1894, personally appeared before me Justice of the Peace in and for the aforesaid County duly authorized to administer oaths. Henry Hilbert aged 38 years, a resident of Llewellyn in the County of Schuylkill and the State of Pennsylvania whose Post Office address is Llewellyn, Schuylkill Co., Pa. well known to me to be reputable and entitled to credit, and who, being duly sworn, declared in relation to aforesaid case as follows: That I have been acquainted with claimant and her husband for over twenty years, lived close neighbors and from my acquaintance and associations with the family I know that at the time of the soldiers death he owned no real estate, and no personal estate excepting the necessary household furniture, I know that the claimant since the death of her husband, has not acquired any real estate. That she has no present means of support excepting the contributions of her children, That I know that since the death of her husband she has been supported by visiting her children, one and then the other and when she was in town she stayed with her daughter who is a school teacher, and she contributed to her support. The above testimony I know from my personal knowledge derived from my intimate acquaintance with the family. Affiant further declares that the above testimony was all written in his presence, and from his oral statement then made to Wm. Kuehin of Minersville on August 3rd 1894 at Minersville, Pa. and who reduced the same to writing, that in making the same he did use and was not prompted or aided by any written or printed statement or recital prepared or dictated by any other person and not attached as an exhibit to his testimony. And he further declares that he has no interest in said case and in not concerned in its prosecution. Henry Hilbert page 8*** GENERAL AFFIDAVIT State of Pennsylvania, County of Schuylkill, ss: In the matter of Maria Brodt, widow of Henry Brodt Co. "A" 50th Regt Pa. Vols No. 491768 On this 11th day of February A. D. 1893; personally appeared before me a Justice of the Peace in and for the aforesaid County duly authorized to administer oaths. James Bush aged 61 years, a resident of Llewellyn in the County of Schuylkill and the State of Pennsylvania whose Post Office address is Llewellyn Schuylkill County, Pa. well known to me to be reputable and entitled to credit, and who, being duly sworn, declared in relation to aforesaid case as follows: That he has been acquainted with claimant in the neighborhood of fifty years being school children together and by said acquaintance knows the fact that she was not married prior to her marriage to Henry Brodt and has been acquainted with Henry Brodt since the years 1851 and from my acquaintance with him I have every reason to belief he was not previously married. He further states that the claimant has not remarried since the death of her husband Henry Brodt. He has every reason to belief he would have known it, if she had formed any marriage relation being a neighbor and living in the same village. He further states from his intimate acquaintance and frequent intercourse and other circumstances, he has every reason to belief and does belief that the said Maria Brodt the claimant neither owns nor has in possession any property of any kind from which a revenue could be derived. That she has no income of any kind or present means of support than her daily labor. And he further declare that he has no interest in said case and is not concerned in its prosecution. Vols No. 491768 On this 11th day of February A. D. 1893; personally appeared before me a Justice of the Peace in and for the aforesaid County duly authorized to administer oaths. James Bush Jr. aged 63 years, a resident of Llewellyn in the County of Schuylkill and the State of Pennsylvania whose Post Office address is Llewellyn Schuylkill County, Pa. well known to me to be reputable and entitled to credit, and who, being duly sworn, declared in relation to aforesaid case as follows: That he has been intimately acquainted with claimant and her husband Henry Brodt, for over 40 years, in fact claimant & I were school mates and I know from my personal knowledge derived from my acquaintance and being assessor for the Township of Branch in which said Town is situated, for several years some eight or ten years ago, in making my assessment I found no real estate owned by Henry Brodt or Maria Brodt the claimant, and I know from my acquaintance at the time of the soldiers death that he owned no real estate, I also know that the claimant has no income whatever that I know of. That as far as I know she has been supported by her children since the death of the soldier, by visiting one and then the other, and when in Llewellyn she stayed with her daughter who is a school teacher and who contributed to her support. And I also know that Henry Brodt has not been in any military or navel service of the United States since his discharge from Co. "A" 50th Regt Pa. Vols Infty at the end of the War. Vols No. 491768 On this 11th day of February A. D. 1893; personally appeared before me a Justice of the Peace in and for the aforesaid County duly authorized to administer oaths. James M. Weiser aged 50 years, a resident of Llewellyn in the County of Schuylkill and the State of Pennsylvania whose Post Office address is Llewellyn Schuylkill County, Pa. well known to me to be reputable and entitled to credit, and who, being duly sworn, declared in relation to aforesaid case as follows: That he is by occupation an undertaker and has been acquainted with claimant and her husband ever since the War. That he was the undertaker who buried the body of Henry Brodt. That the said Henry Brodt died on November 7th 1890 and he buried the body of Henry Brodt at Clausers Cemetery, Schuylkill County, Pennsylvania on November 11th 1890. And he further declare that he has no interest in said case and is not concerned in its prosecution. James M. Weiser page 11*** GENERAL AFFIDAVIT State of Pennsylvania, County of Schuylkill, ss: In the matter of Maria Brodt, widow of Henry Brodt Co. "A" 50th Regt Pa. Vols No. 491768 On this 11th day of February A. D. 1893; personally appeared before me a Justice of the Peace in and for the aforesaid County duly authorized to administer oaths. Maria Brodt aged 60 years, a resident of Llewellyn in the County of Schuylkill and the State of Pennsylvania whose Post Office address is Llewellyn Schuylkill County, Pa. well known to me to be reputable and entitled to credit, and who, being duly sworn, declared in relation to aforesaid case as follows: I have not filed any other application for pension except the claim as widow of Henry Brodt, Co. A 50th Regt. Pa. Vols. I further say that I was present when the foregoing was written from my statement then made orally and was written by Wm. Kuehu a Justice of the Peace at Minersville, Pa. She also further declare that she has interest in said case and is concerned in its prosecution by being claimant myself. Maria Brodt page 12*** DECLARATION FOR WIDOW'S PENSION Act of June 27, 1890 State of Pennsylvania, County of Schuylkill, ss: On this 29th day of November, A. D. one thousand eight hundred and ninety personally appeared before me, a Justice of the Peace within and for the County and State aforesaid, Maria Brodt, aged 57 years, a resident of Town of Llewellyn, County of Schuylkill, State of Pennsylvania, who, being duly sworn according to law, declares that she is the widow of Henry Brodt who enlisted under the name of Henry Brodt on the nineteenth day of Augustd A. D. 1861, in First Sergeant Co "A" 50th Regt Pa. Vols. and served at least ninety days in the late war of the Rebellion, who was honorably discharged as Captain of said company, and died on the seventh of November 1890. That she was married under the name of Maria Berkheiser, to said Henry Brodt, on the 27th day of November 1851, by Reverend Waltz, at Pottsville, Pa. That she has not remarried since the death of the said Henry Brodt. That she makes this declaration for the purpose of being placed on the pension roll of the United States under the provisions of the Act of June 27. 1890. She hereby appoints Capt. Geo. J. Lawrence Post 17 G. A. R. of Minersville Pa. her true and lawful attorney to prosecute her claim. That her post office address is Llewellyn, County of Schuylkill. State of Pennsylvania. Ella Hilbert Maria Brodt Celia Harris page 13*** Adjutant General's Office Washington, D.C., June 3rd, 1876 Sir: I have the honor to acknowledge the receipt from your Office of application for Pension No. 139. 107, and to return it herewith, with such information as is furnished by the files of this Office. It appears from the Rolls on file in this Office that Henry Brodt was enrolled on the 18th day of April, 1861, at Harrisburg, in Co. "B", 25th Regiment of Penna. Volunteers, to serve 3 mos., and mustered into service as a Private on the 18th day of April, 1861, at Harrisburg, in Co. "B", 25th Regiment of Penna. Volunteers, to serve 3 mos. On the Muster out Roll of co. "B", of that regiment, dated July 29th, 1861, he is reported mustered out on that date with Co. at Harrisburg, Pa. Henry Brodt was enrolled in Co. "A", 50th Pa. Vols. Aug. 19, 1861, and mustered in Sept. 9th, 1861, as Sergt. For 3 years, July and Aug., 1862. Wounded in action near Bull Run, Aug. 29, 1862. In hospital, March and April, 1863. Present Nov. And Dec. 1864 as 1st Lieut.. Discharged for promotion to 1st Lieut. same Co. And Regt. to date Dec. 3, 1864 By S. O. No. 251, 9th A. D. Dec. 9, 1864.
