On this 8th day of June A. D. one thousand eight hundred and eighty personally appeared before me Clerk of the Quarter Sessions; the same being a Court of Record of the County and State aforesaid Peter Greager a resident of Donaldson County of Schuylkill State of Pa who being by me duly sworn according to law, on his solemn oath, deposes as follows, to wit: “I am the identical Peter Greager who was enrolled on the 11 day of Feby 1864 in Company G of the 7 Reg’t of Pa. Vol’s., commanded by Captain W. M. Hinkson and I was honorably discharged at Macon Ga. on the 23 day of Aug. 1865 and my age is now 33 years. While in the service aforesaid, and in the line of my duty I received the following disability, to wit: About July 17 1869, through severe exposure at Andersonville Ga, I contracted bilious typhoid fever followed by chills, fever + ague and piles from which I still suffer and am greatly disabled. I claim a pension for chill, fever + ague + piles. I have never been employed in the Military or Naval Service of the United States otherwise than set forth above. Since leaving the Service, I have resided at Pa. and my occupation has been mining before my entry into the Service aforesaid. I was of good, sound physical health, being at enrollment a laborer and I am now very much disabled from obtaining my subsistence by manual labor by reason of my disabilities above stated, received in the service of the United States, and I make this declaration for the purpose of being placed on the Invalid Pension Roll of the United States. I hereby appoint and empower, with full power of substitution, NATHAN W. FITZGERALD, of WASHINGTON, D. C. my true and lawful Attorney to prosecute my claim. Etien residing at Donaldson persons whom I certify to be respectable and entitled to credit, and who being by me duly sworn according to law, say they were present and saw Peter Greager the claimant sign his name (or make his mark) to the foregoing declaration; that they have every reason to believe, from the appearance of said claimant and their acquaintance with him, that he is the identical person he represents himself to be; and that they have no interest I this claim for Pension. In the matter of Invalid Pension Claim No. 383665, of Peter Greager, late of Co. G, 7th Regiment, Penna. Cavalry- personally comes the affiant who being first sworn, on oath says: that he is well acquainted with the above claimant and was with him at andersonville, State of Georgia in 1865, when about July 15th, 1865, the claimant became sick and disabled, suffering from Billious and Typhoid Fevers, with Diarrhea, Fever and ague and Piles for several weeks, and was treated therefore by a confederate Surgeon doing duty at Andersonville Prison, the Company officer and surgeon being at Macon Georgia. The affiant makes this statement from personal knowledge of the facts, having known the claimant for over 17 years and served with him as private in Co. G. 7th Regt. Penna. Cavalry from the beginning of February 1864 to 5th of September 1865, and was with him at Andersonville when he was taken sick as above stated and remained with him till they were discharged and came home together and affiant further swears that he is not interested in the prosecution of the claim, and his Post Office address is Lemont Co. of Schuylkill State of Pennsylvania- H. W. Moore Late private Co. G. 7th Pa Cav Subscribed and sworn to before me this 17th day of June 1881. The affiant is the person he represents himself to be, and a credible witness. In the matter of Invalid Pension Claim No. 383665, of Peter Greager late of Co. G. 7th Regiment Penna. Cavalry personally comes the affiant who being first sworn, on oath says: that he is the claimant for Pension in this case, and that he is unable to obtain the affidavit of any Commissioned Officer of his Company or Regiment, in support of his claim for the reason that at time the disability was incurred he was under command of a non-commissioned officer and away from his Company and Regiment in duty for several weeks at Andersonville, Georgia, and could not obtain attendance from the surgeon, the Company and Regimental officers and Surgeon being then at Macon, Georgia, about 60 miles away. The only medical attendance he had or could get was by a confederate Surgeon at Andersonville Prison who attended him for about two or three weeks when he became convalescent and was discharged from Service about four weeks after, being on 5th of September 1865- That immediately after his discharge he was again treated by a home physician, Dr. Joseph W. Bird of Donaldson, Schuylkill County, Penna whose evidence he can obtain- and affiant further swears that he is interested in the prosecution of the claim, and his Post Office address is Donaldson Co. of Schuylkill State of Pennsylvania Peter Greager Subscribed and sworn to before me this 17th day of June 1881. S. On this Third day of August, A. D. one thousand eight hundred and ninety-two, personally appeared before me, -----, a Justice of the Peace in and for the County and State aforesaid, Peter Greager, aged 45 years, a resident of Centralia, County of Columbia, State of Pennsylvania, who, being duly sworn according to law, declares that his is the identical Peter Greager, who entered service during the War of the Rebellion under the name of Peter Greager on or about the 11 day of February, 1864, as Private in company G. of the 7” regiment of Pennsylvania Cav commanded by W. M. Hinkson, and was HONORABLY DISCHARGED at Macon, Georgia, on or about the 23” day of August, 1865, by reason of Gnl. Order No. 94 War Dept. 1865; that his personal description is as follows: Age, 45 years; height, 5 feet 5 inches; complexion, Dark; hair, Dark; eyes, Hazel. That he is now suffering from piles Miners asthma and Lumbago and a complication of diseases and that the said disability is of a permanent character, and is not the result of vicious habits, and that it incapacitates him from the performance of manual labor in such a degree as to render him unable to earn a support, and that this declaration is made for the purpose of being placed upon the pension roll, under the provisions of the Act of June 27, 1890. That he has not been employed in the military of naval service otherwise than as stated above- That since the 23 day of August, A. D. 1865, he has not been employed in the military or naval service of the United States. He hereby appoints, with full power of substitution and revocation, GEORGE E. LEMON, of WASHINGTON, D. C., his true and lawful Attorney, to prosecute his claim; and in consideration of services done, and to be done, in the premises, he hereby agrees to allow his said Attorney, George E. Lemon, a fee of ten dollars, payable only in the event of the allowance of the claim by the Commissioner of Pensions. That he has ____ received _____ applied for a pensions ctf No 479555. Volunteers, was enrolled on the 19 day of Feb. 1864, at Pottsville for 3 years and is reported: On Roll for May + June 1864, first on which borne, absent, - in Hospital Columbia, Tenn. and so reported to Oct. 31” 1864. Nov. + Dec. 1864 present and so reported to Feb. 28” 1865. March and April 1865, Detached since March 6” 1865. May + June 1865 present Mustered-out with Co. Aug. 23” 1865. The name Peter Graiger is not borne. Henry Huber Private same Co. + Regt. Is reported on Roll for May + June 1865 present Mustered-out with Co. Aug 23” 1865. Name not borne on “List of Absentees” on Regtl. Return for July 1865. Co. + Regt. was stationed at Andersonville Ga. July 1865. The records of this office furnish no evidence as to alleged disabilities, cause for which in Hospital not stated. Regimental Hospital records are not on file. Regimental Order Book shows station as follows: July 12th and 17th, 1865, Macon, Georgia, and Regimental Letter B’k shows July 14, 1865, near Macon , Ga.
