Thompson Company H of the 17th Regiment of Cavalry Volunteers, of the State of Pennsylvania, born in Columbia Co., State of Pennsylvania, aged 36 years; 5 feet 6 inches high, dark complexion, blue eyes, brown hair, and by occupation an engineer; having joined the company on its original organization at Harrisburg, and enrolled in it at the muster into the service of the United States at Harrisburg, on the 16th day of October, 1862 to serve in the Regiment, for the term of three years: and having served honestly and faithfully with his Company in Army of the Potomac to the present date, is now entitled to a Discharge by reason of Death-mortally wounded in action near Chancellorsville on May 6th, 64, since died. The said Private Philip Troy was last paid by Paymaster Major Lawyer to include the 29th day of February, 1864, and has pay due him from that time to the present date; he is entitled to pay and subsistence for traveling to place of enrollment, and whatever other allowances are authorized to volunteer soldiers, drafted men, or militia, so discharged. He has received from the United States clothing amounting to 55 74/100 dollars, since the ? day of October, 1862, when his clothing account was last settled. He has received from the United States 25 dollars advanced Bounty. There is to be stopped from him, on account of the State of Pennsylvania, or other authorities, for clothing, etc., received on entering service, 34 51/100 dollars; and for other stoppages… Given in Duplicate, at Camp near City Pt, Va, on this 7th day of July, 1864. Regiment of Vols., Brigade 1st Division Cavalry Corps, born in Columbia County State of Pennsylvania aged 36 years; was enlisted by Capt. Wm. Thompson on the 16th day of October 1862, to serve for 3 years; died on the day of May 8th, 1864. [Here state fully the cause of Death.] Gun shot wound left side. Deceased Philip Troy (Pvt.) last paid by Paymaster Major Lawyer to include the 29th day of February 1864 and has pay due from that time to date of death, May 6th 1864, being 2 months 5 days, at $12 per month. The following amoung of U.S. Bounty has been paid to him, $25 Dolls. There is due him 75 Dollars retained U.S. Bounty. There is due him ___________ Dollars retained pay.
