TUESDAY, FEBRUARY 13, 1945 64th Shenandoah Serviceman Dies; Cpl. Is Wounded With grim realization of the ravages of war, Shenandoah marks up its 65th Gold Star, today, in addition to receiving a report of another locaj youth wounded in action. Their names: Dead Pvt. John J. McHugh. Wounded Cpl. John Mikolajczyk, Pvt. McHugh Mrs. Ellen McHugh, 1211 West Centre street, was notified in a War Department telegram last evening, that her son, Pvt. John J. McHugh, who was previously reported missing in action since January 7, somewhere in France, is now listed as killed in action on that date. Pvt. McHugh was listed as one of the first soldiers from this area to cross into Germany. He entered the service on December 23, 1942, and trained at Fort Knox, Ky., and Fort Campbell, Ky., before going overseas. He was a member of the Annunciation Church, and the son of Mrs. Ellen and the late Frank McHugh. He leaves, in addition to his mother, three brothers. Francis, in town; Pvt. William, U. S. Army, overseas; James, teacher at West Mahanoy Township High School, and two sisters, Miss Margaret McHugh, town and Mrs. Helen Wilcolm, of Philadelphia. Corporal Mikolajczyk Mrs. Barbara Mikolajczyk, 219 West Rock street, was notified in a War Department telegram that her son, Cpl. John Mikolajczyk, was slightly wounded in action on January 26 in France. The local soldier entered the service on March 3, 1943 and trained at Camp Wheeler, Ga. He is serving overseas 18 months and saw action in North Africa, Italy, Anzio Beachhead and France.
