Evans, Jenkin
In this borough on Thursday last, Mr. Jenkin Evans, aged 61. His funeral will take place at 4 o'clock this afternoon...He was a native of Wales and had served for 25 years in the British Army as a private in the 15th Huzzars: he was at the battle that decided the fate of Napoleon, and often showed his Waterloo Medal with all the pride of an old soldier.
Having obtained, after the continental war, an honorable discharge from the service, on account of age, he emigrated to this country, and has resided some years in this vicinity. Notwithstanding his age, with youthful ardor, he joined the First Troop of Schuylkill County Cavalry, and sat his charger on the last parade, as firmly as the youngest member.
By his own desire, the war worn veteran will be buried with military honors, and buried in compliance with his dying request, in such a manner, that when the partner of his life, is called to follow him, her coffin may repose on his!
Notice - The funeral of Jenkin Evans will take place this afternoon from his late residence in Adams, street. The Troop, National Lt. Infantry and Washington Yeagers, will parade at their several Quarters at 3 o'-clock, and the funeral will move precisely at 4 o'clock. The citizens generally are invited to join the procession without further invitation. (By the Committee of Arrangement. Pottsville Saturday, 5th Oct) N. B. The Troop parade dismounted, The Yeagers with side arms, and the Lt. Infantry fully equipped, with three rounds of blank cartridges. FRANK
At the Dauphin county poor house, on Saturday last, Frank,  formerly a slave of Mr. John Harris, founder of Harrisburg. He was born about the year 1745, where Harrisburg now stands, and consequently was nearly, if not more than ninety years of age. He was (?)umitted by the late Mr. Adam Orth, of Lebanon (then Dauphin) county. Frank was unquestionably the oldest inhabitant of this county, well remembered when the Indian smoked his pipe. and when the forest covered what is now Harrisburg and its smiling vicinity. He used to say, "he had turned many a furrow between the canal and the bridge across the Susquehanna". He possessed in an eminent degree the virtues and vices of his race, being a hard worker, a hard drinker, a lounger, and exhibiting an uncontrolable temper. Frank used to assert that he had often played and wrestled with Logan, the Mingo chief, then a young man; now so celebrated by the speech be is said to have delivered, contained in Jefferson's Notes. Whether Logan ever resided on the banks of the Susquehanna, we have no means of ascertaining, but Frank, when the matter was explained to him , he insisted that he had, and that he left it before the expedition of the "Paxton Boys" to Lancaster. If so, he must have pitched his wigwam on the waters of the Great Kanawa, about 1760 - 14 years before he made the speach alluded to, making Logan's age at that time about 29 years, which agrees with the tradition upon the subject. Frank used to detail the accompanying of his master and family, to Paxton church, he and another servant armed, as well as Mr. Harris - of the arms scattered about the church, presenting a lively, picture of the half religious, half military appearance of our hardy forefathers.
