Newman was elected president of the Pennsylvania and Reading Corp., succeeding Edward G.Fox. The board of directors also named Benjamin Graham to the newly created post of chairman of the board. Fox, president of the company since 1951, will serve as vice president of the company and as president of Reading Anthracite Co., a wholly owned subsidiary. He will devote full time to the company's coal operations. The firm, formerly known as the Philadelphia & Reading Coal & Iron Co., changed its name last summer when its charter was broadened to permit diversification of its business. Last week, stockholders approved the purchase of Union Underwear Co. and other firms using the "Fruit of the Loom" label, which last year had sales totaling more than $27,000,000, about 75 per cent of Philadelphia & Reading's hard coal sales.
