Tamaqua, Pa. July 21, 1889. Editor Republican: - Last Wednesday morning some unknown tramp went into the Zion's English Lutheran Church (through the window) at East Mauch Chunk street, Tamaqua, Pa. and stole the large gilt pulpit Bible (English). This Bible was presented to the church by the last class of catechumens of the church. Also the chains from the chandeliers, the Sunday School silver call bell, all the book straps and four fine foot rugs. The reason we know it was a tramp is this: early Wednesday morning a tramp wanted to make a freight train and sold one of the straps to a P. & R. brakeman for a chew of tobacco. Perhaps the Bible has also been traded in this way. The tramp went towards Mahanoy City. A reward will be given for the Bible and other articles stolen. H. A. Kauffman
