Mrs. Julia McCloskey, aged and esteemed resident of Jacksons, died at her home there yesterday afternoon at 4:00 o'clock. She had been in failing health the past three months, the result of a fractured hip. The departed was born at St. Clair and was a daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Bartholomew Toohey. As a child she located at Jacksons where she resided ever since. Religiously she was a member of St. Canicus Church. Her Husband, John McCloskey preceded her in death in 1928. A woman of fine character, she was highly esteemed and news of her passing was received with keen and sincere sorrow. Surviving are the following children, Nellie, a teacher in the Mahanoy Township High School, and Josephine both at home; Isabel, wife of Dr. Z. F. Novicki, Philadelphia; Veronica, wife of Daniel Britton, Jacksons; John and Harry, at home, and Edward, Mahanoy City. A niece, Mary Toohey, who makes her home with the McCloskey Family, nine grandchildren, two great grandchildren and brother, John Toohey of Lansdown (PA), also survive. The funeral will be held on Friday morning. Front Page. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- JOHN M'CLOSKEY DIES AT JACKSONS SUNDAY - (69yrs. 7mos. 8dys. b. 24 August 1858 Father John McCloskey; Mother, Ellen Kerrigan) John McCloskey, a highly respected resident of Jacksons for the past forty years, died at his home on Sunday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock following an illness of the past several months with a complication of diseases. Mr. McCloskey had been ailing for sometime and was compelled to relinquish his duties several months ago at the Ellengowan Colliery, where he was employed because of failing health. John McCloskey was born in Tamaqua and for forty years resided in Jacksons. He was a man of sterling qualities and was held in high esteem by his every acquaintance. Religiously he was a member of St. Aidan's Chapel, Jacksons. He is survived by his wife and the following children. Nellie, a teacher in the Mahanoy Township Schools; Isabelle, a registered Nurse of Philadelphia; Josephine, at home; Mrs. Daniel Britton, Shenandoah; John and Harry, of Jacksons, and Edward, of Mahanoy City. He is further survived by one brother, Harry McCloskey, of Mt. Carmel. Funeral on Wednesday morning. James Haughney, funeral director.
