BE IT REMEMBERED, That at a Court of Common Pleas, held at Orwigsburg, in and for the County of Schuylkill, the First day of September in the year of our Lord, one thousand eight hundred and fifty one, personally appeared HUGH JONES before the said Court, who upon his solemn OATH did depose and say that he is a native of South Wales in the Kingdom of Great Britain now residing in the County of Schuylkill, aged 23 years or thereabouts, and that it is BONA FIDE his intention to become a CITIZEN OF THE UNITED STAES, and to renounce forever all allegiance and fidelity to any foreign Prince, Potentate, State and Sovereignty whatsoever, and particularly to the Queen of Great Britain of whom he was before a subject. In TESTIMONY WHEREOF, I have hereunto set my Hand and affixed the Seal of said court of Orwigsburg, the First day of September in the year of our Lord, one thousand eight hundred and fifty one. Signed: Thomas Mills, Prothonotary TO THE HONORABLE THE JUDGES OF THE COURT OF COMMON PLEAS OF THE COUNTY OF SCHUYLKILL THE PETITION OF HUGH JONES, A native of SOUTH WALES, respectfully sheweth, that your petitioner is a free white person, and an alien, and is desirous of becoming a CIZIZEN OF THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA; that is pursuance of an act of Congress, entitled ÒAn Act to establish a uniform rule of Naturalization, and to repeal the act heretofore passed on that subject,Ó and the supplement thereto, he made a declaration of his intention to become a CITIZEN OF THE UNITED STATES, before the Court of common Pleas of Schuylkill County on the first day of September A.D., one thousand eight hundred and fifth five a certificate whereof is hereunto annexed; and that he has resided within the limits and under the jurisdiction of the United States for FIVE years last past, and for ONE year last past, within the State of Pennsylvania; that he has never borne an hereditary title, or been any of the Orders of Nobility in the kingdom whence he came, or elsewhere. He, therefore, prays he may be admitted to become a citizen of the United States.
