To the Honorable the Judges of the Court of Common Pleas of the County of Schuylkill. The Petition of HUGH JONES, a native of WALES, Respectfully Sheweth, That your petitioner is a free white person, and an alien, and is desirous of becoming a CITIZEN OF THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA : that in pursuance of an act of Congress, entitled ŇAn act to establish a uniform rule of Naturalization, and to repeal the act heretofore passed on that subject,Ó and the supplement thereto, he made a declaration of his intention to become a CITIZEN OF THE UNITED STAETS, before the said Court of Schuylkill County on the Twenty Second day of October, A.D., one thousand eight hundred and SIXTY SIX a certificate whereof is hereunto annexed; and that he has resided within the limits and under the jurisdiction of the United States for FIVE years last past, and for ONE YEAR LAST PAST WITHIN THE STATE OF PENNSYLVANIA: that he has never borne any hereditary title, or been any of the orders of nobility in the kingdom whence he came or elsewhere, he, therefore, prays he may be admitted to become a citizen of the UNITED STATES. Signed with his mark: Hugh Jones WILLIAM HUGHES a citizen of the U.S. being duly sworn according to law, saith that he is well acquainted with the above-name petitioner, and that to his knowledge and belief, he has resided within the limits and under the jurisdiction of the United States for FIVE years last past, and for ONE year last past within the State of Pennsylvania; that during the same period he has behaved himself as a man of good moral character, attached to the principles of the Constitution of the United Stases, and well-disposed to the good order and happiness of the same. Sworn and subscribed in open court, the 26th day of October 1861 Signed: William Hughes I, Hugh Jones the above named petitioner, do, on my solemn oath declare that the contents of my petition are true; that I will support the Constitution of the U.S. that I do hereby renounce and relinquish any title or order of nobility to which I am, or hereafter may be, entitled; and that I do absolutely and entirely renounce and abjure all allegiance and fidelity to any foreign Prince, Potentate, State or Sovereignty whatever, and particularly to Victoria, Queen of Great Britain and Ireland of whom I was before a subject. Sworn and subscribed in open court, the 26th day of October 1861 Signed by his mark: Hugh Jones PENNSYLVANIA SCHUYLKILL COUNTY, SS.: BET IT REMEMBERED, that at a Court of Common Pleas, held at Pottsville, in and for the County of Schuylkill, the 22nd day of October in the year of our Lord 1866 personally appeared HUGH JONES before Joseph M. Feger, Prothonotary of the said Court, who upon his solemn OATH did depose and say that he is a native of WALES now residing in the County of Schuylkill, age 37 years, or thereabouts, and that it is BONA FIDE his intention to become a CITIZEN OF THE UNITED STATES, and to renounce forever all allegiance and fidelity to any foreign Prince, Potentate, State and Sovereignty whatsoever and particularly to Victoria, Queen of Great Britain and Ireland of whom he was before a subject.
