Fritz, an excellent farmer of Somerset county, Pennsylvania, was there born in Pine Hill, July 16, 1836, the son of Daniel and Mary A. (Chorpenning) Fritz. William Fritz (grandfather) was a native of Ohio, who became one of the pioneer settlers in Pine Hill, Somerset county. He married Hester Shaff. Daniel Fritz (father) was born in Pine Hill, and followed the occupation of a farmer all his life. He was a Republican in politics. He and his wife, Mary A. Chorpenning, who was a native of Milford township, were the parents of the following children: J. Harry, Josiah W., Eliza V., Simon P., Jerome F., Frank A. and Urias, who was a soldier in the Civil war, was present at the battle of Fredericksburg, and died in Libby prison. After receiving a good common school training, Josiah W. Fritz immediately turned his attention to agricultural pursuits, in which occupatioon he has since very successfully and profitably engaged. He is a loyal Republican in his political affiliations, and for six years was engaged in carrying the mail from Bedford to Somerset. In religious faith he is a member of the Lutheran church. Josiah W. Fritz married, February 21, 1869, Emma Glessner. (For ancestral record of Glessner family, see sketch in this work.) Mrs. Fritz was born in Stony Creek township, June 4, 1848. Mr. and Mrs. Fritz are the parents of the following named children: Sadie F., married Theodore Weber; Maggie B., married J. J. Blough, of Johnstown, Pennsylvania; Webster P.
