Boston, Biographical Review Publishing Company: 1899, pp 339-340. David Weller,* an active and capable farmer of Somerset, Somerset County, Pa., is a son of the late Jacob Weller, and was born February 5, 1844, in that portion of the old town of Somerset this is now within the limits of Lincoln township, and is of German ancestry, being the great-grandson of Frederick Weller, who emigrated from Germany many years ago, and locating in Somerset County was engaged in tilling the soil the remainder of his life. Frederick Weller's son Ludwig, the grandfather of David, spent his eighty-seven years of life in Somerset, where he carried on general farming. His wife, whose maiden name was Elizabeth Countryman, died at the age of seventy-two years. Both were faithful members of the Evangelical church. They reared ten children, four of whom survive: Mary; Barbara; Eliza; and Frederick, Jr. Jacob Weller, son of Ludwig, was born on the old Somerset homestead in 1811, and died in this town in 1884. He was twice married, and by his first wife, Barbara Sweitzer, had five children, of whom four are now living: Franklin; Elizabeth; William F.; and David, the special subject of this sketch. The mother was an active member of the Lutheran church. She died at the comparatively early age of forty-six years. His second wife, Mrs. Elizabeth Brubaker Mussey, at her death left one child, Flora. David Weller received his education in the district school, and while yet a boy became familiar with all branches of agriculture. On attaining his majority he rented land in Jefferson township, and there by his industry, enterprise, and thrift he accumulated some money, in which in 1872 he purchased his present farm in Somerset township. In the continuance here of his chosen occupation he has met with signal success, and as a general farmer justly ranks with the foremost in the community. He is an able member of the Republican party, ever casting his vote on the side of progress, and for the past two terms he has rendered good service as School Director. In March, 1869, Mr. Weller married Sarah Ellen, the youngest of the three children of Jacob and Elizabeth (Mowry) Miller. Mr. and Mrs. Weller have had three children, namely: Bertha L., wife of Malchus Dickey; Anna May; and Lloyd M. Mr. and Mrs. Weller are much esteemed in social circles, and are both active members of the Lutheran church.
