New Jersey. He made pension application on November 1832 while a resident of Clairborne Twp., Fairfield Co. Ohio. He was aged 79 years. He entered the service at Wheeling Virginia 1774. Took oath of Allegiance in 1777. He was a blacksmith. Returned home to Hampshire Co. Virginia in 1779. In an affidavit from James Anderson it was stated that he lived next door to the said Joshua Critchfield and knew him from boyhood. He lived in Hampshire Co. Virginia. Affidavit from Joseph Nichols says he was raised in State of Maryland about 4 miles from Cumberland. Said he knew Joshua was a blacksmith in Rev. War 1778-1779. He shoed horses in a place called Old Town about 15 miles from Cumberland. No further information obtainable.
