* Born 1832 in Westmoreland Co. Pa. 
* Died Oct. 14, 1897 
* From Draketown, Somerset Co. Pa. 
* Buried in Ursina Cemetery, Ursina, Somerset Co. Pa. 
* Private Co. H 85th Regiment Pa. Infantry 
* Enrolled Oct. 6, 1861 at Draketown, Pa., at age 32 
* Mustered in Nov. 12, 1861 at Uniontown, Pa. 
* Mustered out Nov. 22, 1864 with company 
* Served Nov. 12, 1861 - Nov. 22, 1864 - 36 month 10 days 
* Wounded Aug. 21, 1863 at Folly Island 
* He was presented with a gold medal for conspicuous bravery at the battle of 
Morris Island, he having led a charge on the enemy's breast works. While on 
picket duty in Virginia he captured Major J. B. Washington of the Confederate 
army. In later years they met in Somerset, Pa. and spent an hour talking over 
their war experience.
