Zion Cemetery, 2178 Maple Valley Rd. Meyersdale, Somerset Co. Pa. * Private Co. D 88th Regiment Pa. Infantry * Drafted * Enrolled at age 44 * Mustered in Mar. 11, 1865 at Chambersburg, Pa. * Mustered out June 30, 1865 with company, as Private near Washington, D. C. by reason of Special order #158 H. Q. A. of P. and close of war * Served Mar. 10, 1865 - May 30, 1865 * Disability - Heart Disease * Served Mar. 10, 1865 - May 30, 1865 - 2 month 20 days * Wounded once at age 43 on Apr. 8, 1865. After the taking of Richmond, when on the march in pursuit of the Rebel Army under General Robert E. Lee. * Wounded in right arm between the shoulder and elbow about mid way, a flesh wound. The wound healed up but the shock and excitement caused when receiving the wound - which came from a Rebel Sharp Shooter - no doubt caused palpitation of the heart from which I have never yet recovered and never will.
