Somerset Co. Pa. * Private Co. D 142nd Regiment Pa. Infantry * Enlisted Aug. 1, 1862 at age 21 in Stoystown, Pa * Mustered in Aug. 22, 1862 in Harrisburg, Pa * Mustered out with company May 29, 1865 * Served Aug. 22, 1862 - May 29, 1865 - 33 month 7 days * Brother of Noah, Henry, David, Josiah and Jeremiah Barnett * Returning home with his comrades, he was accidentally killed on the rail road. While standing on a car his head struck a bridge killing him instantly. Entire company was present at his funeral. Accident occurred is sight of York, Pa.
