* Enlisted Sept. 20, 1862 at age 21 in Somerset Co. Pa. 
* Mustered in Oct. 29, 1862 as 1st Sergeant Co. K 163rd  Regiment 18th Pa. 
Cavalry at Harrisburg, Pa.
* Discharged Oct. 22, 1865 as Captain at Cumberland Md. in 1865 by reason of 
expiration of term of service  
* Height - 5'8"; Hair - Light; Complexion - Fair; Eyes - Blue 
* Occupation - Farmer 
* Residence at enlistment - Johnstown, Pa. 
* Promoted to 1st Sergeant Oct. 30, 1862 
* Prompted to 2nd Lieutenant June 1, 1863 
* Promoted to Captain Dec. 2, 1864 
* Taken prisoner at Cedar Creek 
* Prisoner from Nov. 12, 1864 - Feb. 22, 1865 at Libby and Andersonville 
* Transferred to Co. H 3rd Provincial Cavalry July 14, 1865 
* He had a large scar on his forehead from a saber cut received during hand to 
hand combat.
