Infantry * Enlisted Aug. 20, 1862 at age 25 in Berlin, Somerset Co. Pa. by F. A. Edmunds * Mustered in Aug. 25, 1862 at Harrisburg, Pa. by Lieutenant Brayton, U. S. A. * Discharged June 5, 1865 * Mustered out with company at Washington May 29, 1865 * Taken prisoner and wounded at Gettysburg, escaped * Served Sept. 1, 1862 - May 29, 1865 - 32 month 28 days * Disability - Shot in right arm * Deserted in 1863, and was caught and sentenced by Court Martial to forfeit 2 month pay and one month labor on fortifications * Eyes - Brown; Hair - Sandy; Complexion - Dark; Height - 5' 9 1/2" * Occupation at enrollment - Cooper * He was in the following battles: Fredericksburg, Chancelorsville, Gettysburg, Wilderness, Laurel Ridge, Spotsylvania, North Ann River, Bethesda Church, Petersburg, Welden R.
