F 142nd Regiment Pa. Infantry * Killed Dec. 13, 1862 at Fredericksburg, Va. by taking a Minnie Ball in his breast * Buried in Fichtner Cemetery, Northampton Twp. Somerset Co. Pa. * Father of William Caton * Enrolled Aug. 12, 1862 at age 41 in Berlin, Somerset Co. Pa. by F. A. Edmunds * Mustered in Aug. 25, 1862 at Harrisburg, Pa. by Lieutenant Brayton, U. S. A. * Eyes - Blue; Hair - Light; Complexion - Dark; Height - 5' 11" * Occupation at enrollment - School Teacher * Minor Pension: Applied Apr. 3, 1863, Application #17046, Certificate #15965 * Minor Pension lists the following: Minor children - William born May 14, 1850 and Emanuel S. born Sept. 18, 1857. Elias and his wife married Mar. 1, 1849. The wife of Elias died Jan. 18, 1862 before he entered the service. William and Emanuel S. admitted Feb. 17, 1866 to a pension of $8.00 per month commencing Dec. 13, 1862 and ending Sept. 18, 1873 when youngest child becomes 16 years of age.
