Infantry * Enrolled Aug. 19, 1862 at age 36 in Berlin, Somerset Co. Pa. * Mustered in Aug. 25, 1862 as Sergeant in Harrisburg, Pa. by Lieutenant Brayton, U. S. A. * Mustered out May 29, 1865 with company near Washington, D. C. as 1st Sergeant * Occupation - Teacher * Taken prisoner at Gettysburg * Eyes - Hazel; Hair - Light; Complexion - Light; Height - 6' 0" * He was in the following battles: Fredericksburg; Chancelorsville; Gettysburg, where he was taken prisoner and returned Aug. 1st; Wilderness, where he was wounded; Welden R.
