"Jack" Williams * Born Aug. 31, 1838 * Died Dec. 4, 1910 * Buried in Salisbury Cemetery, Salisbury, Somerset Co. Pa. * Enlisted Aug. 25, 1862 * Mustered in Aug. 25, 1861 as Private in Pa. Militia * Transferred to Co. G 1st Maryland Cavalry * Discharged Oct. 6, 1862 on disability at Centerville, Va., Hemorrhoids irritated by riding, deafness in right ear and injury on left side of bowels. * Served Aug. 25, 1861 - Oct. 6, 1862 - 13 month 11 days * Enlisted Nov. 30, 1863 in 152nd Regiment Battery L 3rd Pa. Heavy Artillery * Transferred to Co. F 188th Regiment Pa. Infantry Apr. 18, 1864 * Promoted to Sergeant Major June 8, 1864 from Private * Sept. 10, 1865 Reduced to Private, neglect of duty and conduct prejudicial to good order and discipline. * Nov. 1865 promoted to Corporal * Transferred to Co. E 188th Regiment at the close of the war. Mustered out Dec. 14, 1865 at City Point, Va. * Promoted Brevet Captain May 12. 1865 while in the field, never mustered as Captain. Received no pay increase * Veteran * Wounded in left arm at Chapins Farm and in the side at Fort Harrison * He filed for and was granted a pension under the name of John Williams, an error not detected by the government. His widow applied for a widow pension which was denied.
