Pa. * Died Apr. 1894 in New York, N. Y. * He organized the First and Second Maryland Infantry in 1861 at the personal request of President Lincoln. He was made Major in the First and Colonel in the Second. * Major 1st Maryland Infantry * Enrolled or mustered in June 11, 1861 * Resigned Sept. 28, 1861 * Appointed by the President June 11, 1861, he never served with the regiment * He was the first man to carry the United States mail across the continent. * He is the father of Frank G.
