Pa. * Private Co. F 142nd Regiment Pa. Infantry * Wounded in the arm at Fredericksburg, Dec. 13, 1862 * Killed May 11, 1864 instantly at Spotsylvania, Va. by a rifle ball shot by the enemy * Enrolled Aug. 11, 1862 at age 32 in Berlin, Pa. by F. A. Edmunds * Mustered in Aug. 25, 1862 at Harrisburg, Pa. by Lieutenant Brayton, U. S. A. * Eyes - Hazel; Hair - Sandy; Complexion - Dark; Height - 5' 9" * Occupation at enrollment - Farmer * He was in the following battles: Fredericksburg; Chancelorsville, Wilderness and Laurel Ridge * On Dec. 25, 1862 he is in Fairfax Seminary Hospital near Alexandria, Va. * May 24, 1863 returned from hospital * Widow Pension: Applied Aug. 15, 1864, Application #61013, Certificate #41536 * Widow Pension lists the following: Widow - Caroline. Maiden name of widow is Dickey. Francis and Caroline married Mar. 13, 1851. Minor children of Francis and Caroline were Oliver born June 13, 1851, Samuel born Mar. 21, 1853, Silas born Mar. 13, 1858, William born July 5, 1860 and George Mar. 13, 1862. Caroline received a pension of $8 per month commencing May 11, 1864. On Dec. 12, 1867 Caroline was awarded a pension of $8 per month with an additional $2 for each child; Oliver is listed but his name has a line drawn through it because he had reached the age of 16 and would have been above the age to receive a pension. Caroline was last paid Aug. 4, 1895 at the rate of $12 per month and was dropped from the roll because of Sec. 4719; NOTE: May have been dropped because of her death.
