* Captain Co. A 39th Regiment 10th Pa. Reserves Corps 
* Enlisted June 20, 1861 at age 34 in Somerset Co. Pa. 
* Mustered in July 21, 1861 as Captain in Harrisburg, Pa. 
* Resigned Jan. 8, 1862 
* Colonel 142nd Regiment Pa. Infantry 
* Enrolled Sept. 1, 1862 at age 35 in Harrisburg, Pa. 
* Mustered in Sept. 1, 1862 as Colonel 
* Died July 2, 1863 of wounds received at Gettysburg, Pa. July 1, 1863 
* Served June 20, 1861 - July 2, 1863 
* Apr. 4, 1863 left for 10 day leave of absence 
* Returned Apr. 14, 1863 
* Widow Pension: Applied Aug. 15, 1863, Application #30202, Certificate #10742
* Widow Pension lists the following: Widow - Sarah J.; Maiden name of Sarah was 
Meek; Admitted on Dec. 15, 1863 to a pension of $30 per month commencing July 1, 
1863; Robert and Sarah were married Sept. 28, 1847; Children of Robert and Sarah 
were as follows: Emma R. born May 4, 1848, Edward born Oct. 28, 1849, James B. 
born Sept. 14, 1851, Charles H. born Sept. 17, 1853, Lillian born Feb. 28, 1855, 
Gertrude born Jan. 5, 1857 and Harry B. born Oct. 5, 1858; Sarah received an 
additional $2 per month commencing July 25, 1866 for each of the following 
children: James until Sept. 13, 1867, Charles until Sept. 16, 1869, Lillian 
until Feb. 27, 1871, Gertrude until Jan. 5, 1872 and Harry until Oct. 4, 1874; 
Emma and Edward would have been entitled to a pension because they were 16 by 
July 25, 1866; Sarah J. died Apr. 27, 1906 and was survived by 3 sons and 2 
daughters.
