K 2nd Maryland Potomac Home Brigade Infantry * Enlisted Sept. 16, 1861 in Cumberland, Md. for 3 years * Mustered in Oct 31, 1861 at Cumberland, Md * Absent without leave Dec. 4 to 9, 1861 * Returned under arrest * Company muster roll dated June 30, 1862 lists him as sick at hospital * Company muster roll dated July - Aug. 1863 lists him as sick in hospital in Cumberland, Md. * Served Oct. 31, 1861 - Oct. 19, 1864 * Accidentally killed Aug. 19, 1864 on an iron-clad car, in collision or wreck that occurred near Paw Paw, West Virginia * Widow Pension: Applied Nov. 21, 1864, Application #72975, Certificate #72639; Minor Pension: Application #178576, Certificate #138008 * Widow Pension lists the following: Widow - Sarah C.; Maiden name of Sarah is Johnson; Sarah was born May 11, 1838; Dennis and Sarah were married Oct. 9, 1858; Minor children of Dennis and Sarah are: John Henry born Feb. 26, 1858, Dennis Ellsworth born Jan. 2, 1859, Ida M. 22, ay born Mar 1862 and Eliza Alice born Jan. 27, 1864; On May 2, 1866 Sarah was granted a pension of $8 per month commencing Oct. 19, 1864; On May 9. 1867 Sarah was granted a pension of $8 per month with an additional $2 per month for each child commencing July 25, 1866 until they reach the age of 16 as follows: John on Feb. 25, 1875, Dennis on Jan. 1, 1877, Ida on Mar. 21, 1878 and Eliza on Jan. 26, 1880 with former payments to be deducted; Sarah married second John W.
