Devericks, George M.

* Born in Rockingham Co. Virginia 
* Died in Rockwood, Pa. at age 70 
* Private Co. A 162nd Virginia Militia under Captain James D. Erwin 
* Enrolled Aug. 1, 1861 at age 23 at Monterey 
* At the outbreak of the Civil War he made an attempt to evade Confederate 
authorities and enlist in the Union Army. He was captured and compelled to enter 
the service of the Southern Army. He was soon discharged.
