Pa. * Died Sept. 29, 1930 in Cumberland, Maryland * Buried in Berlin I. O. O. F. Cemetery, Berlin, Somerset Co. Pa. * Musician Co. F 142nd Regiment Pa. Infantry * Enlisted Aug. 12, 1862 at age 17 in Berlin, Pa. by F. A. Edmunds * Mustered in Aug. 25, 1862 in Harrisburg by Lieutenant Brayton, U.S.A. * Discharged May 29, 1865 with regiment * Served 33 month 4 days * Mustered out with company * In 1862 he ran away from home and enlisted. Due to his age he had to enroll as a drummer, never struck a drum, but drew a gun which he carried throughout the war. He was not absent from his regiment for a single day. He was probably the youngest regular soldier from Pennsylvania who served his full term of enlistment. * Eyes - Hazel; Hair - Light; Complexion - Fair; Height - 5' 6" * Occupation at enrollment - Tobacconist * He was in the battles of Fredericksburg and Chancelorsville, after which he was a musician and in time of action did good service with the wounded. * May 19, 1863 he is to be charged for knapsack because he lost his on the last march. * Invalid Pension: Applied Jan. 28, 1882 and Apr. 14, 1909, Application #438407, Certificate #990757; Widow Pension: Applied Oct. 10, 1930, Application #1678564, no certificate number listed.
