Howard, Henry

* Born Jan. 5, 1830 in Somerset Co. Pa. 
* Died June 7, 1915 in Ferndale, Pa. 
* Private Co. K 163rd Regiment 18th Pa. Cavalry 
* Enrolled Oct. 26, 1862 at age 32 in Johnstown, Pa. 
* Mustered in Oct. 29, 1862 
* Mustered out Oct. 31, 1865 from Co. H 3rd Provisional Cavalry 
* Dec. 19, 1863 he was thrown from his horse at Brandy Station, breaking his 
shoulder. He was in the hospital there for 5 months 
* In the winter of 1863 and spring of 1864 he served with the 22nd Cavalry 
* He fought at Gettysburg, Cedar Mountain, Wilderness, Spotsylvania, Cold 
Harbor, Catlett's Station, Ream Station and Winchester 
* Discharged Oct. 31, 1865 
* Invalid Pension: Applied June 25, 1879 and June 20, 1907, Application #294259, 
Certificate #449105; Widow Pension: Applied June 14, 1915, Application #1048897, 
Certificate #800512
