Pa. * Private Co. F 142nd Regiment Pa. Infantry * Enrolled Aug. 18, 1862 at age 18 in Berlin, Somerset Co. Pa. by F. A. Edmunds * Mustered in Aug. 25, 1862 at Harrisburg, Pa. by Lieutenant Brayton, U. S. A. * On Dec. 12, 1862 Francis was wounded in the hand by a rifle ball when a stack of rifles was accidentally knocked over. He was sent to the hospital. * Transferred to Veterans Reserve Corps on Nov. 29, 1863 * Eyes - Hazel; Hair - Sandy; Complexion - Dark; Height - 5' 5" * Occupation at enrollment - Laborer * Sept. 27, 1862 He cut his foot while on wood cutting detail. * Dec. 17, 1862 returned from hospital, say they get scarcely anything to eat there.
